    Suppressor Question

How does one go about getting certified (?) to own/use a suppressor?

Would like to fit my AR with one for hogs.

Please list the steps needed to go through to get this done.

    Thanks

I think you need to go to a dealer in one and pick out what you want to buy. Then find a class 3 FFL that can do the transfer.

The dealer should have the required paperwork and you have to get a law enforcement signature I think from a chief where you live or the sheriff and fingerprints. Then pay the feds $200 in taxes and wait for your clearance.

If a chief law enforcement officer will not sign off on it, I think you can incorporate but that is longer and more expensive.

I was just talking with a friend of mine at work sunday and he told me everything you need to do but I forgot half of it. I know for sure you have to get a letter from a police chief or sherriff. You have to go to the city or county judge and get permission and pay a tax on it. All in all it will cost you around 800 or 900 dollars from what I was told

Look into a firearm trust, it'll allow you to bypass the LEO signature. The other thing with a trust is you can name more than person as part of that trust. If you have a Can on your AR and happen to forget it in your brothers truck one night and he gets stopped... You and the brother are in trouble... But if you have a trust with your family on it, they can use it whenever.

$200 tax is still the same, just negates some other issues that come up with just having it registered to you alone.

Now you do knock out alot of muzzle blast with a Can in place, but you still are going to make alot of noise. The supersonic crack of the bullet will still be heard as well as the sound of the action and any gas escaping there. If you have a fast twist barreled bolt gun and put a can on it you can them load some super heavy bullets and shoot them subsonic, basically all you will hear is a sound like a brad nailer and it will not carry that far.

Just got through doing some research on this very subject myself. My neighbors detest the roar of a .308 at 2am when the hogs come in to the yard...

          Find a class 3 dealer.
They should be able to walk ya through it with ease.

There are two in my area that can help ya make it quite easy.

DJ there is a small shop out side of Tomball off of 249 @ Harden store Rd. Go east on Harden store rd a bit and it's on the right. Before you cross a set of train tracks. I don't recall the name. I know 4 guys who got trust set up through him and bought their can's.

Just so you are prepared I would reccomend getting together with someone on the green screen first and shooting their's. It ain't like the movies.
