Mac, I am going to recommend the Smoke Ramcat. This is a BH that is sharp, accurate and flies like a dart. It is a cross between a mechanical and fixed. The blades are already exposed so no not opening problems and they widen out and have a back cut when the come back out. Also, I would recommend looking at the new Wasp mechanical that is just now coming out. I think Rocky may be getting some in.

I personally like the rage but I don't have alot of kills with them, I just like the way they operate and I like that I can take off a practice tip and screw on the rage and it shoots the exact same as the practice tip, I have seen some animals that were shot by a rage and it did the trick. A friend loves the slicktrick broadheads and I looked them over and they are pretty impressive as well. Maybe get some more opinions on slicktricks if your not fully comfortable w the rage.

              they're chespo's because I haven't made that jump yet...
              The plot thickens.
More than likely, if they're inconsistent, but field points are, it's either spine, lack of control by the fletching,(not enough helical/spin), or both.

IMO, a well placed field tip will kill a deer.
^^^ I'm not saying "try it!"
So I'm leaning more towards rage just for accuracy purposes.
The thing I hate, is that if and when there's a pas thru, the ground damaging the $15 head.....

Something you might check, if you haven't already: Muzzys are horrible about wobbling out of the package. The reason I dont shoot them anymore is I was tired of straightning 2 of 3. If straight, and bow tuned, I liked them (not as much as my slick tricks).

Just something to check before dumping a car payment on a pack of 3 broadheads

                    4" vanetec's at a 1 degree.
The 1 degree is something that I was thinking might have been the issue...

Mac I will give you my specs and you can compare possibly to yours, I shoot a Z7, 68 pounds at 29 inch draw, quad drop away, 400 series arrows, bemans or eastons doesnt make any difference, and use 3 or 4 blade muzzy's, have same impact as field points, I can tell you though if you have any hand tourqe or hand placement isues it will show up with fixed heads of any kind, not saying you do but could be! Mechanicals will help but try and fix the prblem as well! Good Luck!

Interesting comment....I have tried Slick Tricks twice, same result....all over the target (at 25 yds +).....go back to a Muzzy and I can shoot again. The Rages fly well also. I think its a mind thing with me

This is why mechanicals were invented.
people were trying to get improperly fletched/spined arrows to shoot fixed heads, and gave up.
                          They,(Rage), kill good.
