I don't see that anyone had asked but did you have him sign a bill of sale or anything? Title?? At least the guy apologized in the end.

I can't say what I would have done in your shoes but the second he mouthed off to my wife and disrespected her like that it would have notched up to a whole different level.
And I think it was pretty chicken **** of him to flop out his badge. I would have called anyway to keep things from escalating further.

It would probably be your word against his at this point but I would report him for doing it so that it is at least on record. If he had said "I'm with the XYZ police department and I will be looking into whether this contract is legal" that might be OK. But for him to pull a badge as an intimidation tactic is out of line.
Quick story from the opposite angle:
My buddy is a local police officer. His 17 yr old son got a day job doing construction in a nearby community (not where his father works). It was a one week deal with cash paid at the end of the week. On the last day, the owner stiffed him out of $150. I won't go into all the details but the point is this...he complained to the owner and the owner blew him off. So he went home and told his folks what happened. His dad took him over to the owner's house and confronted him. They argued a little bit back and forth but the owner finally agreed to pay the rest of the money. This happened WITHOUT my buddy pulling his badge or resorting to threats based on his LEO position. Problem was solved. Just a frame of reference - take from it what you will.

You need to report him. Look at it this way.
Internal affairs keep tabs on their officers and if they do something wrong it goes on their record. If they do so many things wrong, they get terminated from their position.
What if this guy has a couple of prior issues and yours would be the final one that got him terminated? What if you don't report it and the next time he does something like this, it doesn;t end so well.
If he is a good guy and just got out of hand this one time, then he will likley not be terminated from his position, but reprimanded instead.

I wonder if he called back to said he was sorry .. just to CYA
If it was his character to act that way in this stressful situation who knows how he would act in a stressful situation on duty.
LEO"S should be held to a higher standard.
When he pulled the badge it was an implied threat. Like I am the police what are they going to do to me.
I am a ex/leo and I would have reported him.

I am over it. BUT, after telling the story on a drinking occasion (bsing, and sharing stories) the guy I was BSing with said I should have called and reported him.
Now, he called me back and appologized. I give him that and can respect that he was man enough to do so. And, had I have known I could have called and reported him for it at that point I probably wouldnt have.
BUT, at the same time had I known to call and report him I would have done so as he was leaving my house and he would not have had the chance to appologize.
For the record. Either way I am not going to do anything about this its in the past and I forgave him. but wanted to share and am curious that IF I HAD reported him would he or could he get in trouble? future reference maybe? get a badge number?
Although that is probably a once in a lifetime thing.
If you are happy with this then more power to you. As for my self the police would have been called before he left my property. Would he be in trouble? You bet, It is called Offical Oppression and contact un-becomeing. The on duty supervisor would have straighten him out right away. The only reason he called you was because he new he could be in deep fical matter. just my 2 cents

I am am starting to think he didnt call because he was man enough to admit he was wrong. He called because he was afraid he was gonna get in trouble.
This event happened almost a year ago. I am not gonna go bring up old stuff.
I was ignorant about it at the time. Now that I know IF something similar happens again I will be calling someone about it.

There are 2 sides to every story......
Hey Dad. I found a beater Jeep (no offense) for cheap. Come with me so I can buy it.
Ok. Sounds like a good idea son. Its taken you a long time to save up the money. I am proud of your work ethic and I am as equally impressed that you want to flush it down the drain on an off road Jeep thats been beat to hail already. You will be lucky to get 100 miles out of the pos but Man oh Man will it be a blast.
Dad, so you think its a good idea?
Sure Son. Why not? What could possibly go wrong with it? Its a sound financial move to buy a vehicle thats on its last leg. I bet the reason he's selling it is because he has a mean wife thats nagging him to get it out of the driveway. Lets go get it. I will buy the first tank of gas for you.
Days pass...
Hey Dad. Guess what. The pos Jeep is broke down. I want my money back.
No way. Are you sure its broken? You drove it around in the mud all weekend. That shouldnt be a be an issue.
Yea. We had the jeep in 5ft of water and mud doing 46mph and the thing just started acting funny.
Well thats too bad. I am sure the seller will give us your money back.
You think?
Absolutely son. Wal mart takes everything back. Why shouldn't he.
Laugh it off. Who cares if he was law or not. Dad's just kicking himself for letting his son waste all his money. Expensive lesson for them.
