I honestly cant see it happening, to the west there are 4 ranchettes with horses, to the north is more of my families land, to the south across the road is a large ranch, to the west across the road is another large ranch

If interested, we can split an order of sawtooth. I really only need about 500, so we could split a 1000 tree order.

I'll need to order before August and available to pick up anytime after January. I planted this last group in April, only because it was too wet to plant till then. They say to plant anytime from winter to early spring for best results. Trees need to be planted within a few days of picking them up, or kept in cold storage till ready. Only issue is we will need to coordinate pickup and planting that will work for both of us. And do you know how many you want? I planted 25' apart on 25' rows, but they can closer. 500 trees doesn't cover as much acreage as you would think. mine covered an area about 30 yards wide by 800 yards long.

Hey B... Have you taken progress picks of your future hardwoods?

Before, after plant, and yearly succession?

It would be neat to see the progress if you have.

                  Chad

Put a drip irrigation system in and plant a pecan orchard!

(my uncle did that in Schulenburg)
This X 2, Lay out a grid, plant 3 pecans in each location ( different varieties if wanted ) thin as they grow. I used to help on an orchard when in high school near Weimar. For those familiar with it, look how fast Berdoll's orchard near Bastrop grew. Cash crop, tax umbrella, hobby, & hunting area all in one.

Not to nose too much into your business but if the cost of a high fencing well over 100 acres it is not a problem at $5/foot..... then you could probably afford a good size chunk of land further west.

You don't want mesquite trees. I can't get rid of them on my place.
                        Good luck.

Not to be negative, but there is a reason why the place isn't covered up in trees already. Most of this area is not suited for growing trees in the upland areas, ie bedrock to high, ground water too deep. Just be mindful that trees don't just grow everywhere, and if they do they may not get as tall as you would need-

Not sure if its doable their but I would plant it in pines if they will grow their,, the critters will have cover pretty quick and you can select cut the jungle and sell the wood for profits later for the purchase of more land. Land sitting idle is useless , make it work for you...

It's gonna be very expensive to get your dreams to come true. Do a soil test first. Go dig a few holes in the property and see just how deep you can get. I know you said there is a creek running through the property. I personally would get a bulldozer and dig out a deep pond that will retain water year round. Then proceed to plan OAKS. Oaks will grow fast, Provide good shade, and will bump the value of the property(as will the pond). If you can keep them alive and watered. Pines would be my second choice. Mesquite will run rampant on the property. No doubt. Regardless of price or effort if this is what you want there WILL be a way to make it work. One way or another. I wish I was in your position hahaha. Good luck buddy and and follow your dream. But don't jump head first into it without planning it to a T. Costs, how far apart the trees need to be planted, are they even going to survive, how long the trees need to be supported before you take the supports off. There is a TON of things you need to do to plan before you plant.
