Alcohol during a hunt

Drinking @ the lease? I can't imagine not doing it. But if you've got people that are abusing it, get rid of the people. Changing rules to stop people from being stupid won't work. They will always find new ways of being stupid.

Pass a law to stop stupid people from breeding. It's the only answer.

all day, and most of the night. when i used to rifle hunt, my uncle would make us bloody marys to take to the stand, and i would always pack a cooler in the evening.
however, if you are an outfitter i would understand not wanting your client to drink. on the same note,i wouldn't hunt with a outfitter who does not allow it. jmo.

Most 200 pound guys in Texas or Oklahoma can consume alot of alcohol, especially beer without getting wasted. Why would anyone be drunk enough to stagger to the ATV and even consider going hunting....especially bowhunting. Don't bowhunters know that the odds are against them from the time they leave camp??? Who in their right mind would take their bow into the field "buzzed" much less drunk. Not drinking at deer camp is just plain unTexan. I guess there are always a few idiots that ruin it for eveyone. I have never hunted around people like that. Don't get me wrong...people in my camp have gotten completely wasted.....they just don't leave the camp. Then they don't get outta bed to go the next morning.

Heres how I did it...

I had no written alcohol policies except to keep it safe and reasonable.

If I had an occasional problem I would talk to them one on one.

I only cared if they were impacting the enjoyment of other hunters or visibly unsafe.

If they didn't get the "common courtesy" thing then they were gone.

I dont drink all the time at the lease, but I will have a beer or two in the evenings during bow season and then when it cools off have me a couple 7&7s. depending on what I eat at lunch I may have a beer or two then also. This last wkend I didnt drink at all at the lease, but the opener I did have a few lone stars.

I personally think that there is nothing wrong with it but it is strictly up to the landowner...If it is allowed and you dont like it then dont hunt with that group of people.

About 99% of the people I have ever hunted with were great folks to be around. That other 1% can be loud and obnoxious even when he's stone sober. I find that a couple of beers makes me more tolerant of his behavior.

I never knew I was a 1%'er Don.

I prefer Crown over beer but will drink beer if it is all that is available. Have no problem with someone drinking in camp. If I am drinking it is usually even funnier when they fall in the campfire or I fall off the ice chest.

On occasion I will mix up a grey goose and redbull to start the morning off right. I get all my growlers filled up with my favorite local lager to share around the campfire. A may tie a good one on after a succesfull day. But all in all I really don't drink all that much during the whole hunt.

I have been lucky (thank god) with just one incident guiding that was not alcohol related, I think my chance would go out the window if booze was brought into it. After dark, you can get **** slobbering drunk if you want; it makes kicking you out of the bunk at 6am all the more enjoyable

I can drink some beer..I can not aldo drink beer...though I love cold beer if th rules say no drinking..I wont drink..I do not get loud or noisy or stupid..
I do know everything though..my wife will tell you that..
I will drink a few beers before a hunt,,,dove season for sure,,bow season water is in my pack..

About 3 times a huntin season beer is good for breakfast, about 15 times a year its good for lunch, almost always good after dark...I only hunt with friends so its not too big a deal...when someone asks me how far it is down the pipeline road I always say its a 12 pack . As a landowner and liability issues...its just another one of those things in life that you worry about and hope nothing happens...Legdog always tries to rachet it up a notch or two, but he cooks so much you will eventually eat

I enjoy a brew (or 6-12) after the evening hunt with dinner...but I also don't care for a "Beer Camp" (vs. a Deer Camp) where half the people stay up all night getting whiskey-stupid and keep the other half of camp from hunting.

If I wanted to "party", I would'a saved a lot of money and just gone to a bar.

After being on a Beer Camp lease in Llano for a few years, I was happy to read the "no alcohol" policy on the BAO information. It's never kept me from having a good time and a good hunt there.
