most likely they all had brow tines. I would have culled him too!

They were all 3 by 3. brows with forks at the top.

The lease I hunt on had a horrible problem with mature bucks having no brow tines until they started culling everything with no brow tines.

2.5 years and older with no brows goes down every time on our place. Brow tines are an intricate part of a ranch that is managed for trophy deer. Crab claw 7's, 6's, and no brows at 2.5 are pretty much automatic cull, unless there is something unique about them then they get one more year.

my thoughts exactly! If he forks and doesn't have some sign of brow tines he goes in my book

This happens on all three ranches that I manage and guide on. At 4.5 - 5.5years we shoot all of our low end 10's as well

We take out 2.5 yr old bucks that look like this. That would be a definite cull on my family's place down in McMullen. I think you did a good thing

any MLD ranch would cull him. Why wait 2 years and let him spread his inferior genes and eat his share of protein and browse..
some people just dont get it.

I've got several of these as well that I would like to cull out but it wouldn't fly with the camp boss.

We have two ranches that are managed extensively. This is definitely a cull buck. At 2.5 that deer should have brow tines. You do not want that deer breeding next year. That deer is basically a 4 point pushing a 5th point. Even if he grew brow tines next year he would have to grow a few more points and gain considerable tine length, width, and mass to have any promise. Good job.

I say shoot a buck like that, but it depends on circumstances of the ranch you are on. I think it is no big loss with him gone, especially if you have better 2.5 year old deer. They begin breeding young and if you think a 2.5 year old can't get in their and steal a doe, you are kidding yourself.
