I do invest a lot of money(for me) and time away from my young family to enjoy hunting.
So when I get out there do I take it, and myself too seriously sometimes?, yes sometimes I am pressing for a deer, or I have a weekend when I see no deer on stand, and it is frustrating. But end of the day I am enjoying the sport in my own way.

I know I am guilty of stressing over too much. I stress over what color flashlight I am using to get to my stand in the morning. I need to forget the gimmicks and just hunt.

I'd say I'm a middle of the road guy.

I am about as OCD as they come with my equipment but I'm a big ol boy and scent control is futile on a 90 degree October day sitting in a box sauna in black clothes... I wash my clothes in a scentfree soap and spray down when I get in my box, but that's about as far as I take it. Black Under Armor shirt, khaki shorts and snakeboots.

Playing the wind is futile where I hunt as well. The same deer could come in from the front, the side or the back of me on any given day ....multiply that times 10-15 deer and you can understand the reasoning behind the futility.

I do walk in a little farther but I do drive the truck down to fill feeders with no issues. Heck in dry years, we have deer walk in when they hear the truck because they know the feeder is about to be set off.....

I gave up freaking out over my scent and stuff a few years ago. In fact I've almost given up on shooting a good buck too. For now, it's all about the meat for me. Especially this year because I've been busy with a new dog and a new club (texasgundogclub.com). I just enjoy being out there and being away from it all and seeing some beautiful country and hopefully a deer or two. I don't have a lease this year so I am just thankful when I do get to hunt with some friends or family.

I wash my clothes with scent free and store them in a box with a few cedar limbs.
I get there about 30 minutes before the feeder goes off and trip it a few seconds before getting into the blind.
In the mornings I stay until I feel like I'm done hunting, which is usually about 30 minutes to an hour after the sun is up.

No sprays, scents, coverups, all the crap is for people that like to waste money.
In fact I use the girliest smells in my hair, and I just cover it up with a scentlock beanie and off I go.

Play the wind and don't move when an animal is looking at you is pretty much the 2 rules I like to follows.

My favorite hunting shirt. I wish that hat hadn't met an un-timely end.....killed A LOT of stuff in that hat.

I dont' get too serious but the seasons that I have scored are a tad bit better than those that I haven't. Remember also that spending time doesn't always mean getting too serious. I totally enjoy all the prep time and trying to figure out what's going on with the game I'm hunting. If I ever quit enjoying it I'll be done.

Guilty! I stress pretty hard about hunting, but I love every minute of it.

I guess I am a sucker for scent free clothing, scent free detergent, and every other possible angle to kill deer. Say what you want...but it's just me.

I enjoy having the wind blowing at my back and not having the deer smell me less then 10 yards away.

I hunt in whatever Im wearing and if Im lucky it was washed in Tide Free. I get in the stand when I get there and always take a book with me and coffee. I do check the wind on the way into my feeder to decide which stand to hunt that day. I dont wear gloves, face mask, or camo most of the time. Ive never been one to put any stress on a hunt and just enjoy my time sitting on the side of a tree.

I don't worry about much of anything when I'm out in the sticks. Never use the scent stuff and will probably use the same jacket i wore around the campfire all weekend. I check the wind and pick location accordingly. No fashion hound on camo either...whatever is clean and replace as it wears out. Pattern can be any kind.

I prefer to get dropped off at my hunting locations but all are set up where i can park close if needed.

Heck, I may take off to go do some walking and rattling and end up shooting quail if that is what the day calls for. I'll shoot at every yote i see be it last day of the season or the middle of the rut.

Folks make too much of what 'ruins the hunt'.

Besides, I have farmdog on the lease this year and he told me he is going to find me the biggest buck on the ranch...
