I hunt pretty simple. I am a firm believer in trying to keep everything as simple and natural as possible. The one thing that I am **** about is my hunting clothes. I don't wash them, but every 4-5 hunting trips (unless they get bloody). However, I keep them in an air tight bag for travel. They come out, and are hung in trees when I get to the lease, and I only wear them to the stand and back. I put them on when I park my truck/4wheeler, and take them off when I get back to truck/4 wheeler after a hunt.

All I know is the more noise I make the more deer I see.

The last three years I have been just as you described... Every since my kids and wife have started hunting, I have gotten back into gun hunting mode with them, a bit more relaxed than the way I used to be about bowhunting... And it has spilled over into my bowhunting, I am having fun with it and we always get our deer just the same...

Maybe it's what's being shown on tv that causes us to over think it and take money out of our pocket and into someone else.

Not for me anymore. About all I do now is just wash my cloths in free & clear laundry soap (cheapest I can find) not worrying about UV brighteners. For scent killer, I just mix my own. No feeders on the lease anymore either. About a week before I hunt a stand I'll start hand corning a spot where I want them to stop for a shot. Not a lot of corn either but just enough that they can see it if not directly on the trail. The morning of the hunt I just drive up and put corn out in the same spot. If there is still corn there I don't bother putting any more. Drive about 75-100yds and park, get out and spray scent killer on me, walk down the road, climd up in the stand and get a nap. More times than not wake up to the sound of deer munching on corn.

For all the thinkin' about hunting and planning for hunting that I do, I sure don't spend as much time in the blind as I probably should. This year I am forcing myself to get in the blind earlier than 30 minutes before throw time. I hate sitting there in the dark for an hour or more before sunup but I've been doing it - but so far this year it has made no difference. I'm going to force myself to do more midday sits this year too. I'm also sitting more trails far away from feeders. Still not seeing much but it feels more like hunting.

Ever color in a coloring book or play superhero's while whispering with your son-daughter-grandson-grandaughter? Ever hold them and listen to them breathe while they take a quick nap 'cause they got up too early? Ever cover them up with a blanket on a cond, drizzly day? Ever share a breakfast bar and choclate milk with them in the stand and cringe like heck when the paper rattles? Ever take them potty and raise up your head and be covered up in deer? Ever see the excitement in their faces when their eyes light up and they think you are the greatest and coolest guy on earth? Who's laid back? Who takes hunting too seriously?

I think when I get to the lease Friday, I'm gonna move a tripod to a new fence row they just cut through our place. And crawl in it Saturday morning with the afforementioned .264 Mangler. Should be able to see further than I can shoot...

What deer you talkin bout, Bobby?

I went out on a limb this year, Bought my first bow, arrows, broadheads, target, tree stands, ladders, scent free spray as well as clothes wash.

Thats as far as I'll go, I get to the stand 30 ish minutes before sun up, I stay until I get hungry, although when an evening hunt I try and go out around 3-330 or so. I don't over do it one bit (well accept buying all my archery gear). of course this year my expectations are low because i'm brand new to bowhunting, and will be happy if i am able to fling an arrow at anything let alone a deer.

I'm very laid back. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't, oh well. I just love bein at the ranch. Sometimes I'll get serious depending on the situation.
