    My Labs last days.

I raised Jenny from a Pup -to a hard working retriever. We spent the last 11 years chasing Dove and Quail together. She is 13 years old and will be 14 in Oct. BUT I don't think she will see her 14th Birthday. She has been going downhill pretty fast. She isn't eating like before and has lost a lot of weight.
We debated on leaving her home on our Annual Dove hunt, but my close buddy talked me into taking her. I'm glad I did. She was still able to slowly make a few retrieves. On the long birds- she would just look at me and sort of say- I'm to tired for that one Dad . To watch her go from a race-horse of a Lab to a sick ol' tired girl is hard to swallow. She was good at what she did and now it's time for her to rest. Gonna be tough on me and the family when it happens. Submitting this thread to my Brothers on the forum is a way of helping me cope with it.
Here are some pics of Jenny.

My mom's dog just passed in the middle of the night last night. He quit eating like 5 days ago, he was 9 or 10 years old. I wrote a poem a few years ago about my (now 11 year old) Doberman, maybe it'll help.

Unwavering loyalty in the face of the most adverse situation
That is his promise to me that he will always keep
I need only love him and pat him on the head
And by my side he'll stay for the rest of his days

Besides his mother, the only other love he has ever known
Is that which I have given him, healthy and strong
Always alert and ready for anything
His mere presence allows me to relax and sleep at night

To him I promise to be strong in his darkest hour
To do what has to be done, without selfish thoughts or actions
God give me strength and the wisdom
And allow him to be by my side again one day

Atta-girl Jenny! Good lookin pup there! I have a lab, Solomon, that will be 13 in march and we're going through the same thing. Make her comfortable and give her a few extra treats now and then. Let em sleep in the house. They'll always love ya and wag their tail, no matter what. Sounds like you have a hell of a dog lung pumper.

That is truly a beautiful lab. From the pictures she looks to have led a life doing what she loved. Sorry to hear this and hope your family is strong.

                    Rainbow Bridge

We have this framed and in our hallway with pics of a lot of lost animals

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
