Please dont run that Monarch in your Ruger

A buddy got a Ruger AR for his birthday. We spent Saturday on the range for breakin. He bought 180 rounds of Monarch from somewheres. 62 grain polymer tip and 55 grain laquered stuff. Every round was a failure to feed. I begged him to stop...so I started loading his mags with 55 gr Federal. Night and day. Before he started running the Federal he broke his rifle down and there were 3/4" steel shavings all over his bolt. Not sure if it was the breaking in of the action or the ammo. He wiped the bolt and slides down and ran 100 rounds of Federal no problem. After 100 rounds of Federal he wanted to cycle the remaining Monarch. I tried to buy his remaining Monarch off him to bury it but he persisted. "Dangit man!" I pleaded he not do so, however it cycled fine much to our surprise.

If my gun won't shoot ANY ammo I feed it, then there's a problem. I've shot thousands of rounds of monarch. Brass and steel case. Lots of full auto. Never a problem.

I shoot Monarch ammo but only the brass casings. The psp seem pretty accurate but I've only shot one coyote with it so far. Not a fan of steel casings. Many rifle manufacturer's have on the instructions that running steel cases ammo will void the warranty.

Mine eats it all and wants more. Your buddy's rifle has a problem with it.

As mentioned above, my gun eats it like cake without issue. I even killed a 200+ lb hog with a monarch 55 gr hp a week ago and he dropped in his tracks. Decent ammo for pigs and plinking IMO.

The difference in the percussion from the Monarch to Federal was unmistakeable and immediately noticeable. It seemed his rifle was belching smoke whilst running the Monarch...before and after the Federal. I didnt see any smoke plumes with the Federal.

All the Monarch was steel casings. All brass with the Federal.

My PSA built AR runs the monarch 62 grain lacquered coating just fine and is actually quite accurate with it. Think it's just the gun bud

I'm non monarch guy, ran about half a box of .380 through my pistol, it went to jamming, not feeding, took it home and didn't think I was ever going to get it clean. Used half bottle of hoppes #9 getting all the black out of it.

Wait, what? You're supposed to clean these things?

I'll shoot any and everything through my ar15's and they've never had a problem with any ammo. Lots of Monarch and wolf steel.

Only problem I have seen with monarch 5.56 is the lacquer they seal it with. It will gum up a chamber bad.

Wolf ammo I won't run. Too many ftc and ftf. And that's through more than one rifle. I'm not spending money on ammo I can't count on. And 4"+ groups at 100 yards just aren't allowed either.

Does anyone even have lacquer coated cases anymore?

Most of the steel case stuff is poly coated now.

It isn't precision ammo, and was not meant to be. I use it to plink/play with.
