    What bullet/load do you hunt w .223?

You're comparing factory to handloads. Apples to apples the 08 runs 300 fps over the Rar.

I'm comparing factory loads as listed for the .308. I know that it can be loaded hotter. But the loads I'm shooting with that .30 are Remington factory loads.

          And I haven't had or shot a
.308 in many moons. I currently have and shoot. The .30 but only shot it through a chrono once and if memory serves me I had an average of 2707 fps or 2711 fps.

I've used everything from 55 grain cheap soft points to my extremely hot hand loaded 50 grain vmaxs. The key is shot placement I like neck shots with the vmax bullets 99% of the time the are DRT.

I've hunted for the past 7 or 8 years with a 450 Bushmaster. Killed a lot of deer and pigs, I don't recall needing a second shot on any. I'm shooting only 75 to 125 yards.

I killed deer this year with 6.8 SPC & 110g Accubond and 223 with 65g Sierra Game Kings and neither made it over 30 yards.

Both were behind the shoulder lung shots.

In a .223, I'd use the 75 grain Hornady or 77 grain Nosler or Sierra bullets.

6.8SPC here for anything that might reach further than 100 yards. 300Blk SBR with a dot sight for walking around pig gun.

Son made a Texas Heart Shot last February on a 120ish pound boar at 205 paces that was running straight away. Entered an inch right of center, and exited halfway between the left shoulder and cheek. Complete stern to stem penetration from the 120STX factory load out of the 6.8.

I have been using the grendel for over 10 Years. I have killed over 50 deer with it (MLDP), 3 axis and 13 pigs. I have used 120gr NBT and 120gr TTSX.

NBT......2/3 are DRT and 1/3 ran up to 40 yds with trails a blind man could follow.

TTSX Other than head shots or a shot that went through a shoulder I never had one drop inside 100yds all with questionable bloodtrails.

I only use 2 rifles while hunting and it all depends on the distances to be shot.

18" 6.5 Grendel.....this is my go to gun. I now have night/daylight scope on it.

                        .300 RUM

I've only shot deer with an ar for the last 3 years. It's light, it's short, and I really don't care if it gets scratched up a bit. I adjust it down when the kids wanna shoot and they shoot.

dropped a doe in her tracks at 100 yards the only time I took it hunting. It is a fun little gun I just like something a little bigger in case big boy walks out farther away

Also dropped a huge 265 lb boar with my .223 AR

I now have a .300 BLK and .223 in an AR platform for night time pig hunting that I love

                                Use my Bushmaster...

in .223 all the time. I've killed several axis with it up to 65 yards with 64 gr. PowerPoint ammo. I've also used it to kill a couple of hogs at 168 yards and two barbado sheep at 186 yards.
