I will add to the 7mag votes but I will do the t with 280AI which equals 7mag performance with less recoil

If mule deer is the largest in this discussion, I'll regretfully leave my 7mag in the safe and vote for something in the area of 257Wby down to 270/280. If cost and reloading is part of the discussion, that answers itself.

Is someone going to tally all these up? Grand totals would be interesting.

I can load for Coyotes and bobcats to prevent pelt damage and I can load up for deer or other big game!

60 gr hollow point for Coyotes and bobcats.
100 gr Nosler Partition for deer and other big game!
I'm the same way with my 6mm Remington
55gr NBT's for varmints (4k fps shoots like a lazer)
105gr A-Max for Deer and Hogs (kills 300lb SD Deer)

Agree with you, but my 6mm did not have the knock down energy back when it was all I had to harvest elk. Hit a cow standing broadside in the lungs (right above and behind the heart). That elk didn't even know she was hit. The follow-up to the neck a few minutes later dropped her. Either way, I am a big fan of 6mm/243.

Funny story on when idiot government officials write regulations on subjects they know nothing about. There was a time when Colorado stated that centerfire calibers 243 and less were illegal for big game hunting. Meanwhile, the 6mm(244) was legal.

I'm not sure about a tally but I have seen a lot of 7Mag and 270. I am a little surprised. I thought there would be more 243

I have a pile of different calibers and the one I always use is a 300 Win Mag.
