Never met someone that didn't like their 6mm

I have a custom .257wby and .308 already. My hold up is deciding if I want to make my 22-250 a custom or build the 6mm

I don't like 6mm or 243 for deer hunting...actually despise them for that. It's fine if you want a dedicated long range varmint & twist it for such, but still?? Both are icky to me.

Talk about the 6BR or 6ppc...now we are talking a balanced round that makes me smile.

I would go 22-250AI before a 6mm but then again, I'm the only guy you now know who doesn't like that round...puke.

My boys shoot a 6MM Rem in a Model 7. It has always seemed like a great kids gun....kills everything dead.

That being said....next on the custom build list is a small/light 6BR which will likely send that perfectly fine and functional 6MM to the back of the safe. Why you ask.....cause I wanna

              280AI all day!

Especially with elk being a possibility

I can't believe all of the bad reports on the 6mm. It is an excellent round and I killed my best mule deer ever with one, dropping him in his tracks at 150 yards. My wife shoots a 243 and seems to put her deer down in their tracks with it.

My deer rifle is a custom 6mm Rem built by GAP. Shoots 105gr A-Max bullets and knocks em dead.
My old 30-06 will be built into either a 30-06AI or 280AI

6mm Ackley improved or 257 Ackley improved. Light recoil deer killers

Anything with standard bolt face. If you build a short action caliber on a long action it allows for longer bullets, longer cartridge overall length, etc. if you so choose. You have a ton of options for that action.

280AI will be my next build.

6.5-06 would be my second choice.

In a previous post you said you were definitely going lighter than your .270 be ause of shoulder issues. The .280ai is a 7mm MAGNUM without a belt for all practical purposes. If you truly want something perfect for deer and not "marginal" at all for elk, i would go with an 8 twist 6.5-06. The recoil will MUCH less than the .280ai. I do love the .280ai and build a lot of them, but they definitely arent light kickers in a hunting weight rifle!

I appreciate the info, that sounds like a much better caliber then. I love the .270 and its a great round but it punches pretty good

I love my 6.5creed but I think my dad has stolen that one for the time being so a 6.5-06 could be the ideal mix. Will do some more research on that round. Thank you
