What to build off .270 action?

Have a remington 700 in .270 that is ready to get a face lift. What long action caliber do you rifle guys recommend? Mainly be for white tail and occasional elk. Handloads are not a problem.

    Thinking about .280ai ?

I have a .270 that will become a 6mm remington if I can make up my mind.

6.5-06 or 338-06 would be my choices.

9.3x62 super fun round it has quickly became my favorite gun. And a 286 grain bullet at 2400 fps is lethal.

I built a .25-06 last year with the same action as yours. It's a deer killer but would probably be a little light for more than the occasional elk. Good luck with your build and I like the avatar

                  I built a 25-06 off of a Remington 700 that was a 270. Love my rifle.

I like the idea of the 25-06 since its a lot lighter recoil. I’ve had 2 tears in my rotator cuff and going lighter than .270 for sure.

I need to do some more research on the 6mm rem and the 6-06. I have a 6.5creedmoor and I love it

If going lighter than .270, then I might suggest 7x57 Mauser. You can load 120-140gr bullets for deer, and controlled expansion 150-160gr for elk. I'd love to have one on my old M700 Mountain Rifle platform in a long action. Come to think of it, that's what may happen to my .30-06 if it beats me up too much more..............

                        I say 280 AI
I finished mine earlier this year and it's a shooter. I really like the caliber plenty of knock down and very accurate.

7x57 is one of my favorite rounds. Deer slayer for sure!

6mm...why?? It's too big for a rat gun & too little for a real rig.

Built a swift, 25-06, 280AI...something that doesn't go 'Doh...' after the fact.
