I had to think hard about this one. I remember when I was a kid the 30-06 or single shot no pad 20 ga would get me. But haven't had a real big problem once I grew up. I guess the worst was the friend of a friends 45-70 lever gun. My buddy asked me to come help his buddy sight it in right after he bought it. Found out later it was because we could take turns getting beat up. They both shot it a group or two each and I had to finish it up. The first time I shot it I didn't have a good hold on it. Nearly knocked me down. But I was a fast learner and figured it out pretty quick. Now my buddy laughs at me when I tell him I want a 45-70 lever, 338 win mag or something around that size.

On night many years ago in Zimbabwe we had one heck of a party and I think I consumed about a twelve Castles and about 2 1/2 bottles of S African wine and a few shots of who knows what.
The next morning I was in terrible shape, my head pounded so bad it hurt to blink.
I had a 375 HH mag that had to be zeroed before we went out hunting that day.
Everyone in camp knew how bad I was feeling so I drew a small crowd heading to the bench to shoot. The first shot hurt so bad it about put me to my knees, as all the onlookers broke out cheering and laughing. With every shot my head hurt worse and the laughter grew louder as the crowd grew bigger. I think it took about 6 shots total and I have never done that again

Bought my 300 win mag when I was 16 been shooting it ever since but I definitely developed a flinch. Worked on my flinch all summer and it has improved tremendously. I honestly prefer shooting my Marlin Guide Gun 45/70 over my 300. The worst was my dads Pre 64 Model 70 375h&h. I didn't understand recoil control at all and thought "hey, if I put my back against a wall and shoot it would give me a very solid brace" WRONG. Thought I dislocated my shoulder. It was then that I realized if my body could move with the recoil it wouldn't be as bad. I enjoy the slow moving big bores way more than the magnums. The big push is way better than a sharp crack to the shoulder.

460 Weatherby Mag for me. Bought the gun from Cullum and Boren outlet store in Dallas for next to nothing back in the 80s when Oshmans bought them out. Got 3 boxes of 500 grain Weatherby ammo with the gun. I still have 25 of the 60 rounds left. Always fun to let the Super hero types shoot this cannon and the look of pain on their face is priceless.
