I can carry a 1000 rounds of ammo and feed myself with it for a long time.
Similiar to this - my RWS 34 air rifle (.22 cal) and a few thousand pellets would keep me and my family fed for a real long time, and not give away my location either.
Ruger Single Six in .22 mine is accurate to better than 50 yards. not much sound. and unlike other fire arms, very few moving parts to brake. bought mine back in 1981 and shoot it about six rounds a month.
Not enough info for me to respond. What is causing the end: disease, riots, economy, weather, war?
The less people I will encounter, the small bullet I would want to carry as I can feed my family with a .22lr all day long. Possible hostiles, my 5.56 at the minimum.
I think an AR in 5.56 with light, sling, RDS (or 1-4/ 1-6 optic), BUIS, suppressor (or even without suppressor) and mags is by far the ideal setup.
-Effective firepower from 0-500+ meters.
-Ability to hold 30,40,60+ rounds in a magazine.
-Commonality and availability of parts, ammo, magazines etc
-The cartridge is small and lightweight which means you can carry lots of it and you're still not sacrificing terminal effectiveness.
-You can hunt with it, you can effectively defend yourself with it.
Home Defense, civil unrest, SHTF, zombies, WW3 whatever...I'm grabbing this.
