    This.

I love the look and feel of a 1911.

But it's kinda like comparing a trad bow to a compound. Which one are you gonna choose for that crucial life sustaining hunt?

    And this.

They're different guns for different tasks. Yall know where I stand but both sides have folks that are emotionally attached to their gear and get incredibly worked up over the most trivial issues.

I don't care what anybody else shoots. Their uses and expectations may be different than mine.

Completely agree. I also own both A Glock and a couple 1911's. I love my 1911's. My Glock I use as a carry gun because of weight. Unfortunately the Glock doesn't fit my hand all that well, the grip is too long front to back for me. I shoot it well, but its not nearly as comfortable as the 1911 is to me. They both have their places for sure, but if I have a pick of the 2 I am still grabbing a 1911 every time. But that's personal preference.

Taking the 1911 design, blowing out the frame so you can stuff a double stack in there, and re-designing slide/barrel for 38 super isn't the same as a 1911

All you can do with a glock is buy one and try to modify it, you can't build it from the ground up without violating patents (not to mention the very high start-up cost of making polymer frames). Probably why there's a lot more winning raceguns on 1911 frames.

You're doing it wrong. Went on a crappie trip on Rayburn a few years ago. Guide gets to the dock and asks my son how old he was. 12 at the time. Darn, you are going to have to wear the PFD the entire trip. I ask why, he doesn't have to wear it when anchored. He says that anchor is a bad word on his boat, doesn't even have one.

I've spent too much time and effort in building these piles to drag an anchor through them.

It was neat. He'd get to the waypoint, then move up front to the trolling motor, while watching the downscan. when he found the pile, he would pitch out a marker buoy upwind of it. Then just use the trolling motor to maintain position over the pile. Worked wonderfully. He said if it got too windy for the trolling motor to hold, you weren't having fun anyway.

Don't understand how it can "suck" when it is so widely accepted to protect civilians and and LEO's around the country.

The thing I laugh at is how people always say the 1911 is totally unreliable, and Glocks will never, ever jam. I've seen 1911's jam, sure. Have I ever seen a Glock jam? You betcha. If you like your Glock, I'm glad for you. If ANY of your autoloaders have never jammed, you haven't shot them enough. It's just like riding a horse: if you haven't been thrown, you haven't ridden enough.

You all know I like stirring the pot on this pointless topic.

I have my a 1911 and many Glocks. They both shoot awesome. Can't pick a favorite. Two totally different guns. I carry my Glock everyday my 1911 is a range gun for the most part.

That's really a misleading comment, "shut up until you win two world wars." The Glock and similar guns (high capacity, +P 9mm, Gold Dots, etc.) didn't exist in WW II. It's not like they had a competition and the 1911 won. I'm a SIG SP2022 shooter, myself. Shot probably 5,000 rounds through mine so far, not a single glitch.

Aye. By that logic, had france adopted the Hi Power in 1935 instead of the Modèle 1935, they would have whooped germany...

Officer Clark (HPD) was killed by robbery suspects when his 1911 jammed. I think I that was in 2003. A lot of officers gave up the 1911s after that and switched to Sig and Glock. I know that any gun could have jammed...but it seemed that every year at annual qualifications the 1911 guys were raising their hands and having to get extra time after they cleared the jams. Seemed like you had to buy a 1911 and then spend another grand to get it "nice" so it fed properly. I'm sure there are a million stories to contradict this one, but this one was personal. He was shot down like a dog and executed while trying to get his Colt to operate.

                        RIP Officer Clark

Police Officer Charles Clark was shot and killed while responding to a silent alarm at a check cashing store on South Loop East.

Recently (within the last year I believe) 3 NYC cops shot a guy who had just killed someone, they also hit several bystanders, if they would have had 1911s they wouldn't have missed.

PS, there are Glock open guns. KC Eusibo shot one for a while. Apparently Glock couldn't pay him enough to continue shooting it, he got tired of it not running. In the old days of USPSA, there was only one division, even then 1911s ruled, that was with 8 rounds, no comps or dots (they were not in use yet) glocks 17s were available then too, though.

Google : glock jams on trooper in a gunfight. NYPD glock jams recall.

Anyway, some of this was tongue in cheek, but it was all true, I think. Shoot what you like and have fun.
