Browning 725 and White Lightning O/Us.....

Getting the new dove gun itch and I am leaning toward this new 725 in a 20ga field grade with 28" barrels. I was actually leaning towards a 525 20 but they are hard as heck to find these days. The new slimmer 725 has peaked my interest.

Anybody shoot the 725? I'm curious how you feel about the new slimmer Browning?

My current 20 ga O/U is an original Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade XTR Lightweight given to me by my Dad as what he called an "early inheritance" 7-8 years ago....lol. I don't want to go make any significant changes to it since it is an older gun in **** good shape. I'd like it the 101 to be more of an heirloom for my nephew plus I need an excuse for a new gun... I want the new gun fitted by a pro and probably have an adjustable pad added to it or get the buttstock bent the natural way...

I have also looked at the White Lightning which is about $400 cheaper. I'd like to get the 725 but may settle for it. Anybody shoot the White Lightning?

Anybody know any good shotgun fitters in the DFW area? Mine is no longer with us.

For the money the White Lightning shot better than some of the more expensive shotguns I shot in my last field competition. We were allowed to shoot a lot of different shotguns, at this particular charity shoot and it was my favorite.

If you catch a good deal on one, let me know.

I love my 725 12 ga. The slimmer profile makes it handle better than the old citoris for me.

          Did you handle the 725?

I have heard that and sure peaked my interest. I shot a white lightning 8-9 years ago and but it was just a single round of 5 stand.... I think I liked it lol

I'm a Browning O/U guy through and through and have had citoris from almost every series, but the "lightning" series are the poorest handling of the bunch. Any of the "_25" series will be better handling and better balanced than the lightnings. Browning hit a home run with the 725 series. If you haven't yet, you owe it to yourself to get one in your hands before making your decision.

I have about 3000 rds thru it with zero issues.

I looked at every shotgun I could get my hands on in Midland/Odessa/San Angelo/Lubbock. with no concerns on price. I narrowed it down to a 725 and a caesar guerini as my top two picks before I looked at the price. I went with the 1/2 price 725 which honestly I was leaning slightly anyways. I am a big guy with kind short arms and it points really well for me. The triggers are nice but could stand some smoothing up. I am not sold on the new chokes but they are growing on me. It does not come with a case and comes with only 3 chokes.

What is the choke issue? Is this the issue I have read about suggesting that the Invector DS might be more open choked than marked? I'm assuming that is a 725 field.

                        And thanks for the followup...

Yes it is the field model. I pattern my shotguns so I don't pay much attention to "reports". I did buy a set of Brileys and they pattern a bit tighter but I have found that the case on almost every set I have ever bought over factory.

This quote of from the website

The exclusive brass alloy band at the base of the tube seals out gas and grit that sneaks between the barrel and tube, making the Invector-DS tubes easy to remove even after extensive shooting.

I guess my complaint is they are just hard to screw in and out. That ring at the bottom the keeps the trash out is a real tight fit and makes it tough to screw in and out. Not unmanageable for me but for my wife or my boys they cant unscrew them by hand without a wrench.

I'm a huge fan of my 725, but I also strongly recommend the longer barrels for shooting the further shots, especially as I shoot smaller gauge. I have tubes for my 12 gauge and shoot 32" barrels for 20 & 28. Can't go wrong with the 725, great platform and great handling.

                            good luck!

I have somewhere around 15000 rounds thru my 725 Sporting Hi Rib, in just a little over a year. So far its been flawless. Mine came with 5 chokes. The brass seal does loosen up after awhile
