Don't expect big blood trails with a rifle. Nice if it happens, but seldom does, especially with high velocity rifles. They usually punch right through with minimal expansion or expend total engergy within the animal. Many of the older rounds are much better as "brush" guns. A couple of favorites for the old timers (I'm 71, so you get the picture on old timers) were 30-30, 35 Rem, 348 Win, and .45-70. I think 30-30 killed more deer than any of them. Probably more deer than any other rifle. There juist might be a reason the 30-30 has been around as long as it has.
