I have two Zeiss 3x9 scopes and I love them. I seen mixed reviews on the new terras. You might check out this website http://opticsthoughts.com

This guy does pretty comprehensive testing.

I could merely post my suggestion but theres a line of thought behind all these "find me a scope" threads... Simply put in optics you get what you pay for. Quality, Dependability, and Clearness costs $$$$.

A leupold VX2 is NOT a middle of the line scope... Its a bottom level scope not for a chambering such as the 260 rem and definitely is not worth 6-800 bucks.

For 6-800 bucks you need to be looking at the Leupold VX3 line, Zeiss Conquest Line, or maybe if you can find an excellenet deal on the top edge of your budget a Swarovski Z3... These three are what mid range optics are all about.

Vortex top of the line, Leupold VX2 and lower, Nikon top of the line, Burris top of the line all are lower tier budget scopes.

In optics you truly get what you pay for.. if you want a top of the line optics get ready to spend $2K bucks... IF middle of the road is good for you $1K is definitely doable... this is my bread and butter, for me I like a 6-1000 scope, they work for me and they really shine in the areas I use them. If you want a lower end scope spend 300-500 bucks... I put these on guns I dont shoot alot or dont use in low light... 22's, 223's stuff like that.

If you spend under 200 bucks on optics its just a gamble at that point. Does it work right out of the box? Is it clear? Does it track reliably? does it hold zero? can you bump it and it stay zeroed? How long until it breaks on its own? How long will it stay clear? Realize that my top tier, middle tier, and lower tier don't even include crappy scopes that are just a waste of money to me like the NC Star, or buckmaster series from walmart. Get all butt hurt if you want, only because you own one and you like it... not everybody can own a cadillac, some people like the prius... but lets be honest the 2 dont equate.

CoachW I agree you get what you pay for.

I've always had bottom tier Vari X II, and I know changes have been made since then. I want this first build to be topped with good glass other than those 200 scopes I have used in the past. Soon as I get home I am going to start looking hard and heavy.

You're such a liar and hater Coach! My $200 Buckmaster is just as good as any Swarovski scope out there! You are just paying for a name!

            HATER!!!!

I like the Vortex HS 4-16x50 LR and all the Huskamaws for long range scopes. That's what I use in my long range shooting school. I'm also a dealer and can get you a good deal

Make sure you get something with 16x zoom min for long range, good quality turret adj, side parallax is important, and zero stops. Not having zero stops can really screw up a hunt. Trust me on that one.

You're going to get a good scope at that price - many have been suggested. I'd focus on specific features: zoom range, adjustable objective, reticle type, MOA per click, etc. Also read the reviews on Midway's and Cabela's web sites, always tons of reviews there.

I wish I could make up my mind. Really wanted a vortex but have since been talked out of that. Would like to get a mark 4 LR/t but more than I want to spend unless I can get a deal on a used one but can't find it yet. Now that zeiss conquest is very tempting. Lol

Got my favorite scope, but only comment is the 260 Remington is a fun round to shoot.
Good luck....oh, Nikon even thou it get's "kicked around" a lot these days!

Forgot to mention turret travel. You can bottom out and not get the distance you need on some scopes. 75 MOA of elevation travel would be nice.

This is where zeiss is lacking.
