I love shooting the small stuff. I have a .17 rem that my best load will push a 20 gr vmax at 4200 fps that shoots ragged holes at 200 yards. My kids love to shoot it because there is absolutely no recoil.

Blake has too many ccol guns...These are some of my favorites from his list & a few other flavors: :-) Yeah, a couple aren't really odd per say, but not going o find ammo at every shop!!
22LR...should remain oddball until ammo comes back to planet eartth
17 MkIV (Best all aroud 17 imo)
20 VarTarg (best all all around 20 imo)
22 K-Hornet because it's cool...
220 Swift...long live the king!!
6 BR (Maybe the most Wicked & Efficient round for it's case size...can throw pills from the 60gr to over 100gr with insane accuray)
257 Ackley Improved (Stated to have the most improved / % speed increase of all the 40 degree shouldered / AI's)
257WBY...his first and best rouln ever
6.5x55 (not too common, but not really popular either) ;-)
280 Ackley Improved (by far my favorite all around deer cal!!)
7.21 Firebird (The swift's big brother...can throw 120gr solids barnes at 4000fps but need A 30" tube min)
348 Winchester (see Winchester model 71...REALLY WANT)

Love my 338x300WSM. Custom RCBS loading dies that were made before there was ever a SAMI spec for this wildcat. My dies are stamped 338WSM. Probably the first time this caliber wildcat was ever made. Barrel reamer was also custom made.
3240 fps with 200gr nolser ballistic silvertips.
Built on a Browning A-bolt with a Shilen barrel.

And I've been wondering if anybody was going to say 220 swift. I've never heard anybody who just likes it though. They either love it, or hate it saying its just a difficult to work with 22-250. I have zero experience with either, so I'll just keep my trap shut.
And 5000fps with a 22x284? Are you trying to make me drop everything and build one?

I use primarily the swift for serious doe work & asked to help cull, but do enjoy using my great grandmothers .257 Roberts & take at least 1 doe a year with it...I luv that 722!!
I'm surprised the Roberts is not more popular...very good balanced round for child to adult & way better than the 243

now for the kicker, all have Jewell triggers
the 17's and 20's are my favorites
That 280 ackley is one vicious round for almost any game. Very good choice

For some reason neither of those rounds have proven to be a good choice. Seems to be inconsistent accuracy and velocity with them. I talked extensively to Alan Rovig at McWhorter rifles and he told me that the 257 Weatherby flat out performs the short fat 6.5mm cartridges. And yes they build rifles in both calibers.

Well my first build is off to the smith and getting done up. It's my hunting rifle that's going to be a 260 rem. I would like my next build to be a good fox and cat caliber. Then I will start on a 257 weatherby mag. Man after you start building them, sure is hard to stop thinking about the next build. I can see where this could get expensive, QUICK!
