I dont think anyone here is going to the battlefield in the near future unless they join the arm forces
no, but for just a couple more bones you can have a lifelong tool that will hold it's value better & own a more reliable weapon...no reason for anyone here to get hiney hurt for buying a dpms just because it's not the same as a top shelf AR.
Again, we are deviating from the op's question...i advised a rra with a stainless bbl for hunting because i have a pretty good idea it will shoot good and only 'accurrate rifles are interesting'. If his budget was unlimted, I would have told him to get les baer. That gun was on the heals of some of my most accuaret bolt actions.
If he had asked what battle AR to get, it would not have been a rra
DPMS AP4 .223/556 16", magpul furniture. Goes bang everytime even after 1500 rounds down the pipe. 1x9 twist and maintains tight tight groups all day long. Rapid fire to heat things up, still goes bang. Not one stoppage, mis/doublefeed, stove pipe...etc But again, I received my AP4 prior to Cerberus' acquistion of DPMS. Is the quaility different now..don't know. But every manufacturer comes out with a mislabel, lemon etc..I've been pleased with it..are there better out there..sure..but for the $, you should be good. My 2cents

I can agree with what your saying but all I was getting at is it doesent matter what paticular item you discuss whether it be autos, fishing rods, anything out there every person is going to have a different opinion some say its the best some say its junk.Is a $2000 dollar AR really that much better than a $700 dollar AR when it comes to the weekend warrior.I personally have 3 ARs and 1 happens to be a DPMS that I have had for about 10 years and it has never let me down one time be it at the range or in the field as far as I am concerned it shoots just as good as my other 2 $1600 dollar ARs.To the OP I guess you will have to make up your on mind
bassin...I promissed myself i would not get sucked into these stupid / defend my flavor AR's, but a battle gun is worthy of a little more $$$. YES, a $1000-$1200 Colt is easy money spent to have a more reliable battle gun for the 1st time battle gun buyer. Spend some time over on m4carbine.net & read the stickies. Buncha horror stories on dpms failing and glad yours is running.
I build my AR's with top shelf parts...she is currently wearing an aimpoint comp m3 with a LaRue mount, but I could have saved ALOT of money with a chinese knock off and weaver mounts. I'm sure there are lots of $50 red dots that have never failed too, but not on my go to defense rifle. I can switch to a yote gun to zombies in a minute & hold zero...i always give buy once, cry once advice for battle AR's.
Billet receiver, DD bbl, LMT bolt and LPK, YHM handguard (way too heavy & want to replace) & can, etc.
Some people think that if you pay more for nearly the same thing, they are somehow better off for it. Stamp colt or rock river etc. where they say dpms and most would never know the difference and would pay several hundred up to double the price....just a good safe bet.
Artos I really want to build me an AR but really dont know where to get started
I'm sure there are plenty here that would be willing to help you put one together...not rocket science and just need the right tools. Your area should be covered up with experienced AR guys.
I would post up 'Help me build my AR in Odessa' thread & watch the fellow tbh'rs jump on board. Honestly, you really dont NEED to build your own AR...I just had certain wants & like projects. There are so many options available in uppers and lowers, you can probably get what you want off the shelf.
I can do some of the basic stuff but luckily have a fellow class iii buddy who has all the right tools to complete. They are like barbie dolls for guys.
First ask yourself, what do I WANT in an AR...the one I built was to be a primary defense gun but still be able to take it to the blind and have fun. That is why I settled on 12.5" bbl, a suppressor and optic mounts that can switch out quickly and still maintain point of impact.
If you really just want a hunting plinker and are into accuracy, then I say the rock river arms with a stainless tube is the way to go...if you have deep pockets, les baer won't let one leave the shop unless it groups well.
Battle guns are different & requires certain components to be considered top shelf.

Pm me your email address and ill forward you a pdf for building a lower. Buy an upper complete unless you have a torque wrench and an armorers tool. Artoscis saying rra stainless because it has a 223wylde chamber with a 1:8" twist rate, making it about perfect for heavier bullets and exteemely accurate. Stay awayd from bull barrels due to weight!
