Then pick up a rule and see how much wider 1mm more is.

Then realize that they both will expand (according to which brand used) from .50-.90 caliber or up to 23mm .... making their starting diameter meaningless.

I just bought the sheild 9mm. Much easier to control than my .40, ecspecially with the short barrel.

My concealed carry .40 is a bit more difficult to control than the 9mm, just prefer the 9

If you were out target shootin' both, I bet you'd put that .40 down and continue with the 9mm...

Watched a guy on you tube that shot the .40 and he was saying that the 165gr jhp had a little more flip than the 180gr jhp I guess due to the velocity difference. Have you noticed that?

If you would look state police are actually fixing to be issued 9mm now. Atleast that's from one of our locals. So apparently some knows something. With new day ballistics a 9 is great round with right ammo. Plus it lets you add one extra round in the mag. For all of those that carry a big bore to make up for something do some dang reading before you make some off the wall comment

Seems like there's a few more .40s than nines. I think the debate could be more of a "buyer's remorse" issue. I'm sure there are people happy with their nines and those that are happy with their .40. Could be when the people that bought nines actually get to see a .40 cartridge, they think "dang, wish I'd bought a .40" instead of the nine. So to justify their buying a nine, they feel compelled to trash the .40.

By the way, my calculator is busted, could someone add up the totals and post them? Thanks.

I've only shot the 180's. Honestly I don't notice much diff between it and a nine.

No need for a calculator. All mike d and I are saying is that there 40 is hardly any difference than a 9 these days. Plus you gain an extra round in the mag. I for one am one of those that like have extra rounds. Why I have a Springfield xdm in 9. I can carry 19 rather than 14. And I guess I better go tell my tropper buddy the doesn't a know a dang thing. Don't know why he would tell me about them making the switch in the near future.

No handgun round has anywhere near the power of a rifle, and 80% of handgun shootings are non-lethal. Arguing 9mm v .40 v .45 is like arguing .223 50 gr, 53 gr, and 55 gr, doesn't make a **** bit of difference.

.40 is not going to have any real world advantage over a 9mm, I'd go with the extra round and putting as many bullets as quickly as possible on target.

I've only owned one .40, in the XD. It would fire anything you fed through it, and it was more enjoyable to shoot with a heavier round for sure.

Go shoot a hog with a 9mm then shoot one with a 40. May be only 1mm diff. but a big diff in results if you use identical bullets.

Yeah and the 38 special was the standard issue round for many years, still doesn't mean just because the police buy it that its the best round available.

If you will quit being hard headed and READ and WATCH real life shooting studies you will see your argument is just stupid.
