    What state troopers carry...

This is a pretty well confirmed and up-to-date list of what 'state patrols' carry as gun brands and caliber. Although I won't disclose the source, I do trust it.

Just a thing of interest or curiosity.

    Alabama Glock 22/23 (.40 S&W)

    Alaska Glock 22/23 (.40 S&W)

    Arizona Sig P226 (.40 S&W)

    New Hampshire S&W M&P (.45 ACP)

    New Jersey Sig 228 (9mm)

    Wisconsin Glock 22 (.40 S&W)

    Wyoming S&W M&P (.40 S&W)

Seems like there's a few more .40s than nines. I think the debate could be more of a "buyer's remorse" issue. I'm sure there are people happy with their nines and those that are happy with their .40. Could be when the people that bought nines actually get to see a .40 cartridge, they think "dang, wish I'd bought a .40" instead of the nine. So to justify their buying a nine, they feel compelled to trash the .40.

By the way, my calculator is busted, could someone add up the totals and post them? Thanks.

And btw Texas is switching to the 9mm for incoming trainees to the state trooper academy.

Mike, you and onetondodge want to say I should read and watch real life sooting studies but I don't see you posting any data to support this. However, on page 671 of my Nosler 6th edition reloading manual has a writeup by Charles E. Petty - Handloading Editor of Guns magazine - on the .40 S&W and the last part of the paragraph says "Today the .40 S&W is the pre-eminent cartridge of American law enforcement and it is estimated that 75% of new guns sold to law enforcement agencies are chambered for it".

If you and oneton can supply some information that contradicts that, I'll forward it to Nosler and Guns magazine to inform them their writeup wrong so they can correct it. Thanks.

Go all the way back to post #10. I posted a video from a Trauma surgeon who sees how different handgun rounds perform.

Also there is a link in the same post from ATK (parent of Federal and Speer) showing how different rounds perform through different barriers.

I could give a flip less what LE departments are buying. I want to know how each performs in real life shootings.

              TPcollins.....

I usually stay out of these discussions but your ignorance in handgun cartridges astounds me so I'm going to jump in for just a second.

Why are you so hung up on what LEOs carry.

Their (MikeD & onetondodge) whole argument is not on what is the most popular with cops. What they've been trying to get through your thick (and obviously ignorant) skull is to do a little research on the ballistics of handgun calibers and compare the (very small) differences in them.

You keep on going back to what LEOs carry. and your little article from your reloading manual only states that most LEOs carry .40s.

DO RESEARCH and look at actual data, and see how the rounds preform is what they're trying to get you to do.

Instead of just throwing out your uneducated opinion based on what cops carry, DO SOME RESEARCH and look at how miniscule the difference is. LOOK AT WHAT EXPERTS say and then decide for yourself.

I'd bet most LEOs carry Glocks. Does that mean that Glock makes the greatest handgun ever built and all guns are inferior and should be trashed?

Of course not! Your argument is so misguided and poorly constructed.

Acting like 1 caliber is SOOOOO far superior to another is just plain STUPIDITY!

MANY (not all) but MANY trainers and other firearms experts recommend (and carry) 9mm for themselves. Because of the multiple reasons scattered all throughout this thread.

Did you even watch the video that MikeD posted? it is an extremely excellent video and that's the kind of material they've been trying to get you to see/read.

I wonder what 90% of the US military carries? Oh wait, that's 9mm isn't it? Well if it's good for the armed forces it's good enough for me right!? See. I just destroyed your whole argument right there.

Instead of just doing what military or LE does I've done dozens of hours of research, talked with, and listened to people who know billions more about the matter than I could ever hope to. And that has led me to the conclusion that i have came to. Not just doing it because the military does it or whatever.

If you want to carry without doing research that's fine. Nothing wrong with the .40 at all. But coming on here and telling people how stupid they are for not carrying it only makes you look ignorant. (which you have confirmed MULTIPLE times throughout the thread)

I usually try and play nice, but dude. You've been asking for it!

I was just about to post something similar Ike. I have consistently been arguing about terminal performance of each caliber and he keeps going back to what LE uses.

I wasn't sure if we were still having the same discussion anymore.

Oh and yes, Glock is the best handgun out there.

I know! I'm beginning to think he can't read what other folks post! Oh well. I guess we should all drive Crown Vics or Impalas since that's what most cops drive

Yeah I know. I have nothing against glocks. Used to hate them until the gen 4 came out and have one. But I still am a 1911 fan in 9mm.
