Man y'all make me feel bad. My shotgun, a 25-30 yr old Rem 1100, has NEVER been "broke down" to clean. I wipe it down, run a cloth through the barrel and lube the action once every year or two. Same for my rifles and pistols.
Ain't nobody got time fo dat!

I clean every time I shoot unless I'm leaving the bore fouled just before the season. Usually it is a field strip and clean. I will take a rifle or shotgun down more to clean if I was in the rain or if it is the end of the season. Has worked for me for the last forty or so years.

I have an 1100 that is nearly 40 years old and has been used and abused. I use it only for turkey now, and it doesn't get as much attention as my rifles. Usually just clean the barrel out after the season, and wipe it down.

Only reason my 1100 really gets broken down is to clean the fine west texas dust out of the mag tube. it gets to where the third shell wont feed.

Benelli M1 - I only clean after dove and duck season are both over. She requires hardly any maintenance and I am sure glad, and that is after shooting skeet and trap during the summer with a ladies league...
