Round count is not the only reason to carry a spare mag. Most people don't clean their mags anywhere near enough. Have you ever taken one apart and seen how nasty they get? And there are many situations where a mag failure can cause a stoppage, then you are SOL.

I ALWAYS carry at least 1 spare mag and most time 2 especially on my 1911 and pocket guns.

Off duty, on duty, same setup, mainly because I don't have a smaller framed weapon to conceal carry right now. Still looking for one very specific model.
Whatcha looking for? Ill keep my eyes out.

Always carry at least one spare magazine, always a flashlight and of course a knife. The flashlight has gotten me out of more tight spots than I care to mention.
If you are carrying a spare mag in your pants pocket, consider putting it in a pouch. Wouldn't want spare change or FOD getting wedged and rendering it inoperable.

Smith and Wesson M&P45c, with night sights and thumb safety, no magazine safety. It's an 8 round gun with a 3.5 or 4" barrel (can't remember at the moment). Everything about it will carry over from my 1911, except it's smaller and lighter.

            No
My most everyday carry is a 27 block in my front pocket. I really don't have a place for a extra mag. I keep a shot gun in my truck, all my pistol is for is to lay down cover fire to get me back to my truck

That's a hard beast to find. Especially now. Harder to find than a reasonably priced EMP in 40 S&W. (one I'd own if I could find it)

Not to mention when that adrenaline dump comes into play and those 8 shots that you had lined up in your single stack seem not to be enough, you may not be able to successfully reload in a timely manner but best to have the tools for the job than to be hung out to dry.....IMHO
Exactly. Yes, most "shoot outs" are only 3rds etc., but it is also very common for someone to drain a mag without realizing it. Adrenaline is pumping, tunnel vision etc., add to that the "active shooter" posibility, and you should have a reload.

The, "there's no need for more than 6rds" is a non-sense arguement. Why do you think cops carry spare mags? If a LE needs a reload, you might also.

Yes sir, i compare it to a 4wd truck....id rather have it and never use it than need it once and not have it!

No kidding. I was told by a dealer that when Smith came out with the Shield, they temporarily stopped making this specific model and a few other slower movers, to focus more time and energy towards the Shield since it was becoming so popular. Said that once they got caught up on that model, they should pick back up with the M&P I'm looking for. I'm still waiting. I have it on my wish list with Bud's Police Supply, and a couple of other dealers looking for it, but thanks to anyone else who wants to keep an eye open for me. I like the weapon because the safety on it is very similar to the 1911 safety, the round count is the same as my full size, it's just smaller. It took me a long time to get the muscle memory developed to flick that safety off as I drew my 1911, and I'm reluctant to carry anything different for fear that I will get lazy and, God forbid, if the time ever came that I needed my full size, I would forget it. I figure I'll carry the compact more often than the full size, so I want it to function close to the same. Having the same round count in a smaller pistol is a big plus to me, as I shouldn't have to "count" rounds exactly, more like, it'll just be "time" to reload. All that said, I know you should always be cognizant of how many rounds are left in the weapon, but when you switch from 7 to 8 to 12 to 15....it can get confusing. It's just easier for me to remember, fire 8 and reload (that leaves one in the pipe at all times, the way I was taught in the police academy). Never let the gun run completely dry, that way if you have to use it during a reload, you have that one last round to bridge the reloading gap. That's the reason for the no mag safety, and the night sights are an obvious I think.

I'm using an OWB from raven concealment, WWW.themalabarfront.com it is molded kydex. Using the 2 mag style for the M&P mags. Can't tell its even there. Got it setup for rounds facing rearward on support side so when I index the mag it comes up with rounds facing forward to slide into mag well. Just ordered another one for 2 shield mags.
