    CHL Live Wait

I have seen several threads asking about how long it takes to get your CHL so I thought I would post up the dates and steps I took and report on the progress to get it
    • 1/21 Submitted online application and paid feee
      1/30 Finger printed
      2/2 Attended CHL class
2/4 Mailed application packet to DPS via certified mail with return receipt (suggested by instructor). Receipt says expected delivery 2/7
2/5 current staus "application processed online, waiting on receipt of required materials"

    Couple of helpful points:
    1) You have to apply BEFORE the finger print appointment can be made. Also if you screw up making the appointment do not close the window and start over. It will lock you out for 48hrs
    2) You do not need to have passport photos made. On form CHL-6, the one where you attach photos, you just write "Use DL photo" beside the spot your photo would go. Of course if your DL picture is not to your liking you can use the passport photos

I am going to check on the 8th and then daily to see just how long it takes for them to get my information into the system after they receive it. According to the instructor they have 60 days from the time they enter info in computer to issue your license or deny it with reason

Cuz sent his in the same way yesterday so we will see how close they come back to each other.
Hopefully there is not another person with my name who is a career criminal. My license for work now requires a clean record so no worries there

Be patient. I took my CHL class on 1/5, submitted online application 1/6 and fingerprinted 1/23 (had to reschedule once due to an extended live hunt! ) As of this morning, it still says:
License Status: Application processed online. Concealed Handgun Licensing is waiting on the receipt of required materials. Once the application and materials have been received by Concealed Handgun Licensing and processing has begun, a more detailed status will appear on this page.

Here is what the status page looks like after the state starts processing everything. I have seen this change 3 times in the last week, but it took 21+days to post from my original mailing date. Application submitted online 1/2.

One note: Apparently the folks in Austin "Misplace" our chl 6, chl 100 and application aka "The package" from time to time. Make sure to get delivery confirmation when you mail the package. Solution: Do not resend- Fax in the copies of your paperwork. They will accept copies in that situation. Good luck. I am tracking to see when I actually get it as it shows that it was shipped.

Just a FYI... that status update isn't as up to date as you might like it to be... People have recieved their plastic with the status saying out for manufacture..
It'll show up when it shows up.... something about a watched pot...

Just comparing, but how much green did you have to fork over. I heard the prices just went up with the addition of electronic fingerprints or something. Any truth to that?

I paid my fee on line but now I have to take the class and submit the CHL-100 form.

Mine expires on my birthday in July so I have a little time... but I don't want it sneaking up on me either.

I already let my license expire once and I'll never do that again. Too much hassle!
