What part determines whether the gun can shoot 5.56 or .223 or both? Upper or lower? I need to know what to look for.

Also, what's the scoop on lowers not having a serial number? How does that work?

Sorry the pmags are not made for 6.8... However I have lots of 6.8 steel mags in stock at the gun shop where I work!

The ATF considers the lower to be the gun. The lower is the part with the serial number. The rest of the gun doesn't matter to the ATF. The barrel, bolt, and mags are the difference in most calibers. Once you move up to the larger calibers the whole platform gets bigger and uses the AR10 lower and parts.

The 5.56 can shoot both the 223 and 5.56. I don't advise you to shoot 5.56 out of a 223 unless its a wylde chamber or otherwise specified.

Depends on what barrel bolt and mags you buy... Lol but if you plan to build a 223 then you need a standard AR15 lower.
