.300, Even if he didn't want to add the additional weight up front. It's always better to step up to the stiffer spine if you're on the borderline.

          OP's Talking about me:-)

I'm wanting to build a lighter arrow with more FOC to go faster and hit harder.
          I 'm running 12%ish now.
My current arrows, Beman Bowhunter 340 spine 9.3 gpi, are 29" long and weigh 419 grn.

          Beman Arrow Shaft:
          9.3*29=269.7
          accessories 419-269.7=149.3grns

          Deer Crossing Archery:
          Deer Crossing Hunter Series
          300 (8.9 GPI)
          350 (7.7 GPI)
          400 (7.4 GPI)
          500 (6.6 GPI)

          ECO Hunter:
This 55-75# arrow that weighs in at 7.9 Grains Per Inch.

          Hunter Series 350 Shaft:
          7.7*29=223.3+149.3=372.6

          Hunter Series arrow 300 Shaft:
          8.9*29"=258.1+149.3=407.4

          ECO Hunter Shaft:
          7.9*29=229.1+149.3=378.4

Black Eagle Archery doesn't give any weight.
But the chart says I'm on the bubble of 340/300. So I go to 300 spine

          Now if we calculate GPP
          70# Draw X 5gpp = 350 grn Minimum
          70# Draw X 6gpp = 420 grn Minimum

          at 5GPP I'm ok
at 6GPP I Need more weight. Right?

The 350 spine is stiffer than a 340? Will it be stiff enough?

The ECO Hunter is listed as a 55-75# Arrow.
What does that mean? 55 - 75# Draw weight?
My bow will be 68# which falls into the 55 - 75# range.

So using that arrow they should weigh in at 378.5 grains. which works out to 5.40571429 gpp.
          Is that too light?

Will a 125 grain head increase my overall and FOC weight enough to make it worth the investment?

What about staying with 100 grn head and adding weight to the insert?
How far back is to far back to add weight?

          SAMBO73 created this monster!! :-)

Lot of questions. 55-75 is the numbers some manufactures use for the spine it has nothing todo with pull weight of bow. Always look at the manufacture and see what there numbers mean in spine. Gold tip 5575 is a 400 spines 7595 is a 350 spine And carbon express 350 is anywhere from 350 to 320 spine. A 450 is a 300 spine for them. This was just example

Depending on what model your bow is, but at 68 lbs and a 29 in arrow you need a 300 spine arrow

Minimum arrow weight is 5 gpp so at 68 lb draw 340 gn. Some be leave you should shoot around 6 gpp. So 408 would be your arrow weight.

A 29 in arrow is a long arrow. Much weight up front on this leanth of arrow we'll make it weak. Depending on rest you may be able to cut arrow down as much as 1 3/4 in maybe touch more. Just keep arrow around 1 in in front of rest.

Remember that 12% foc is fine. Lots of animals killed with less.

And yes 125 gn tip is worth it

the 300 Black Eagle Eagle Carnivores are 8.5GPI
                    so that is
                    8.5*29"=246.5gn+149.3gn=395.8gn
                    which equals 5.65428571 gpp

As long as that arrow is the correct spine then it's fine.

RAGIN Posted a few pics of the Silver Flame XXL Heads he shoots..... I kinda dig them!

I'm currently shooting a Strother Valor with a Whisker Biscuit.
The bow I'm looking to buy is a Strother Moxie. I might have to go with a longer arrow to get a Silver Flame to clear my hand and the bench.

I haven't decided on a rest yet. Might stick with the Whisker Biscuit....

Yes with that head you may not be able to pull the blade into the riser.

That's the ticket. Carnivores with the 42 grain brass insert. Shoot a 125 head. You'll be near 450 grains (depending on fletch, wrap and nock) and a higher FOC.

Edit: 460 grains. 28.5 cut shaft. To the nock throat makes it 29" add a lighted nock, 3 blazers, blazer wrap, brass insert and a 125 head and ur at 459.somethin. So 460
