I don't ever use this on an ice chest, because I don't care if they latch or not.

On tool cases (like for nail guns, sawzalls) the plastic latches are always breaking....I but the cheap stretchy velco straps (the kind used for tying up extension cords, compressor hoses, etc.) and cut them so I have a little strap and the velcro.

Two rivets in the top and two rivets in the bottom.....

I'll get a pic and post up so it will be clear as mud!

I've been doing this for years. I use finish washers and the stainless screws to keep the heads from pulling through.

Here is my solution (stolen from the fishing guides @ texoma), just used some sheet rubber cut to fit with some coarse screws. Lasts forever, also 'alligns' the lid perfectly everytime.

I have 2 coolers in the shop that will now be fixed by the weekend.

I use a piece of tow strap. On the last two icechests, I kept the towstrap hinges when I threw the ice chest away. Lasts forever.

Great ideas, I've been through at least a dozen pair of hinges the last ten years.(3 ice chests).
