I just finished a cedar privacy fence and now need to put a finish on it for protection and to preserve the color. Any suggestions? Everything I have looked at is expensive and its going to take a lot of it. Thanks!

Thompson's is expensive.... motor oil thinned with a little old gas works good, but watch the sparks.
I use the thinned motor oil and have have great results.
Thompsons is mineral oil, and kerosene with a couple of UV additives.

I have been building fence and decks for years and you are gonna get some graying no matter what you put on it. To get rid of the gray you just pressure wash it once a year and seal it with Thompson's water seal. Thompson's will help preserve the color for a while, but you are gonna get some fading from the sun no matter what you do.......

I work for landscaper who builds decks, fences, arbors, etc. We use a product made locally in DFW called Readyseal. It is an oil based stain with really rich colors.
You've gone to the expense of building a cedar fence, why not spend a little extra to make sure your fence lasts and stays as beautiful?
