    Jon boat to flats skiff

    A 2004 Lowe Roughneck 1652ss, 2 stroke Yamaha 40hp and a galvanized trailer.
Once a nice 2-man, stick steering fishing boat.

She sat for too long and the layout wasn't good for 3 boys.

The plan: Gut it, make it open utility and lighter.
-Deck the front for the boys.
-Change the stick steer to tiller, maybe add an extension.
-A grab bar for standing and to mount electronics.
-Couple of coolers and pads to sit on.
    -Maybe a poling platform.

think panfish to mudboat, then polished.
A little fresh, a little salt.

Add some beavertail pods to increase carrying weight and allow her to run a little shallower.
If you’re expecting Joey kinda fabrication on this DIY, you should probably just move along now…I don’t have those skills.

Tiller handle with ignition, gear selector, trim and kill switch mounted.
    It doesn't want to run.

    Carb job, new impeller.

          Seats, pedestals and livewell out.
Pull old ingition, throttle, stick steer and cables.
          Start stripping paint.

Thinking it'd be good experience for the boys to help with this project, I bought a safe strip product.

          It was not very effective.
I'd be handling the rest of the paint removal on my own.

In for this. I have one at home that I've been wanting to do the same to as well. Good luck.

You any good at welding or know anybody who is? You could get really skinny with the pods on the back coupled with a tunnel in the back 1/3 length of the boat.

I scooped up a 4'x8' sheet of aluminum off Craigslist, 3/16" thick.
That'll be for the front deck.
It'll run from the 45° angles, just behind the foam.
I'd also like to bend or cut a piece to enclose the deck for storage and support.

I'll also cut a piece for the base for my grab bar and to cover the livewell plumbing hole in the floor.

Built a makeshift motor mount out of a pallet.

                      Is a liar.

According to the beavertail website, a 52" transom bottom needed the small pods.
Cabela's carries them and had a $20 dollar off sale at Christmas.
Cashed in my points and they were mine.
