Wonder-n how the house is coming along, and the critters are doing?

    Comment

Hey Mike! Long time no talk! . House is getting pretty close. Waiting on some electrical and painting finish work, hardware on the cabinets and drawers, polish/stain the concrete floors, then some outside work with drainage, rock, landscaping. Maybe early/mid september for completion...but nothing ever on time out here in the middle of the sticks!

Expanding into raising hogs for meat. Building a pen for the red wattle hogs we plan on getting. This heat really sucks. Click image for larger version

Chew, I hope that the hog pen is downwind from your house and where you spend a lot of time outside. It will become evident when they have been there for a little while.
You can put lipstick on them and they will still smell the same.

Yep got the predominant wind will be blowing it away from the house. Definitely a factor for talking mama into getting these stinky things.

Your new home progress looks like it’s getting into the home stretch with the finishing touches going in. I know y’all are anxious I am sure congratulations.

Good luck on raising your pigs/new meat source. I do think you will notice a better quality & taste than those every day rooters we kill. Did you get just sows or are you going to get the experience of “cutting” them also?

As long as those hogs don't get a muddy wallow, they won't get that stinky.

Hoping to pick up two that are already cut. Waiting on final confirmation (and the pen to be finished). Just found out I have to go to galveston for work for 3 days so plans on hold once again.

Yessir. We have been using something similar around the quail and rabbit cages. Good reminder.

Hoggslayer....I reckon they will have to have a wallow in this heat. Unless I go out and spray them on a regular basis? First time to have pigs so not sure. I'm hoping to time it where I butcher them around february.

Got this project completed (except for some fine tuning with feed/water/shelter). Red Wattle hogs will be ready to pick up on August 26th.

Yessir. Got all those plus 5 chickens. We butchered 24 meat chickens back in June (I think)
