    K5 Blazer project

    So I needed another project

Both of these blazer are 1985 with power everything.

The first one I picked up from my friend he is a painter and his truck broke down on him. He couldn’t work until he got his truck out of the shop which was $1500. I paid $650 for the blazer it was a one owner it has a crate 350 gm goodwrench motor and 700r4 transmission with 54,380 miles on both of them. It came from the factory with 3.73 gears a plus. His grandfather gave it to him last summer after it had been sitting 9 years. They got it running and took it to my friend’s house where it has been the last year because he couldn’t get it to run right and the brakes didn’t work.
It took $35 in parts and my FIL about 1hour to get everything working right under the hood. The timing was off bad, electric choke replaced, new plugs, PCV valve and hose, and hook up all the vacuum hoses to the right place. Brakes worked great once the Vacuum hose was hooked up LOL. It really helps when your FIL is a retired mechanic.

I took the blazer to my wife’s uncle’s body shop and dropped it off to get the body straight and the gaps on the hood and doors spaced right before shooting it with Monstaliner bed liner paint. It’s the only UV permanent bed liner = No fading. Going to use their Smurf blue paint, I got them to send a sample to see the color in the sunlight for myself. It looked good to me so I ordered 3 gallons to paint the blazer with. I sanded it down at his shop took two day for me to do that because it was so hot that week.

The other blazer I just bought for parts. I wanted the rims and I called an ad on craigslist for a parts blazer. I asked how much for just the rims he told me $400. I said that’s too much for used rims, he said that’s for the whole blazer his wife said it had to get out of the yard. Talked him down to $340 and he also gave me his sons old bicycle which I sold the next day at work for $20 LOL. This blazer had a 350 also with the tall K&N air filter a $60 filter, headers, aluminum Edelbrock air gap performer intake. Pull the motor sold it for $250 and kept the 241c transfer case. Also kept the extended drive shafts that had been made for the lift it had on the blazer. Took out all the window motors and wiper motor just to have spares. Then took the blazer across the scales and got $303 for it at the junkyard.

    Parts list so far:
    New spark plugs
    New spark plug wires
New fuel filter that goes in the carb
    New inline fuel filter
New electronic choke for the carb
    New water pump
    New power steering pump
    New power steering lines
    New msd cap and rotor
    New heater hose
    New valve cover gaskets
    New radiator cap
New pcv valve and line and new grommets
    New k&n air filter
New upper and lower radiator hoses
    New thermostat
New belts all 3 of them

I didn’t need all the stuff I had replaced, I only needed valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and power steering pump.

I just replaced everything rubber upper the hood and the water pump because the blazer had set up for so long. I think all the parts cost about $200 so that’s not that much for peace of mind I don’t think.

My 4'' lift kit came in Friday, so I spent the weekend putting in on at my FIL house. Waiting on new brake line for the front to have it done. I didn't like the brackets to lower the brake lines that came in the kit. Also put new calipers and brakes on it while I had it tore down.

My plan is to play this deer season with the blazer the way it sits now. I have a Dana 60 front axle and a 14bolt ff rear to put in after deer season with bigger tires. Tires in the picture are 33’s.

Lookin good, i did the 60/14 swap on mine. It is really a pretty easy swap. Moving the rear spring perches took the most time. Here's a pic of mine:

can you take a close up of the front fender?

looks like it has been trimmed a little

I still have it, and am thinking about keeping it unless I get a offer I can't refuse. The fender has some prior damage before I bought it. It rolled the bottom up a tad.

Ok I thought that you had worked on the fenders to keep the tires from rubbing at full turn like a lot of the k5 owners have done.

Nope, the prior owner boogered it up. I'm hoping to have in a paint booth in the next month

I bought some more tires and rims off craigslist. The rims are the same thing that I had they were supposed to be 15x12 but after driving 70 miles to pick them up and they turned out to be 15x10. I told the guy I asked you on the phone if you looked at the stamp on the back of the rim to make sure it was a 15x12 before I drove all the way to get them and you said you did. I started going off on the guy and after I calmed down we agreed that I would get the rims and the 35’’ tires and an 8000lbs Ramsey winch for $350
I sold my rims and tires for $150

I also have put all new head light and all new bulbs along with new corner makers and tail lights on last week. I have two new window motors to put in this coming weekend.

I also took off the air deflector off the front bumper so people can see the dual steering stabilizer better. I didn’t want that $100 bill to be hidden.
