So I needed another project
Both of these blazer are 1985 with power everything.
The first one I picked up from my friend he is a painter and his truck broke down on him. He couldn’t work until he got his truck out of the shop which was $1500. I paid $650 for the blazer it was a one owner it has a crate 350 gm goodwrench motor and 700r4 transmission with 54,380 miles on both of them. It came from the factory with 3.73 gears a plus. His grandfather gave it to him last summer after it had been sitting 9 years. They got it running and took it to my friend’s house where it has been the last year because he couldn’t get it to run right and the brakes didn’t work.
It took $35 in parts and my FIL about 1hour to get everything working right under the hood. The timing was off bad, electric choke replaced, new plugs, PCV valve and hose, and hook up all the vacuum hoses to the right place. Brakes worked great once the Vacuum hose was hooked up LOL. It really helps when your FIL is a retired mechanic.
I took the blazer to my wife’s uncle’s body shop and dropped it off to get the body straight and the gaps on the hood and doors spaced right before shooting it with Monstaliner bed liner paint. It’s the only UV permanent bed liner = No fading. Going to use their Smurf blue paint, I got them to send a sample to see the color in the sunlight for myself. It looked good to me so I ordered 3 gallons to paint the blazer with. I sanded it down at his shop took two day for me to do that because it was so hot that week.
The other blazer I just bought for parts. I wanted the rims and I called an ad on craigslist for a parts blazer. I asked how much for just the rims he told me $400. I said that’s too much for used rims, he said that’s for the whole blazer his wife said it had to get out of the yard. Talked him down to $340 and he also gave me his sons old bicycle which I sold the next day at work for $20 LOL. This blazer had a 350 also with the tall K&N air filter a $60 filter, headers, aluminum Edelbrock air gap performer intake. Pull the motor sold it for $250 and kept the 241c transfer case. Also kept the extended drive shafts that had been made for the lift it had on the blazer. Took out all the window motors and wiper motor just to have spares. Then took the blazer across the scales and got $303 for it at the junkyard.
Parts list so far:
New spark plugs
New spark plug wires
New fuel filter that goes in the carb
New inline fuel filter
New electronic choke for the carb
New water pump
New power steering pump
New power steering lines
New msd cap and rotor
New heater hose
New valve cover gaskets
New radiator cap
New pcv valve and line and new grommets
New k&n air filter
New upper and lower radiator hoses
New thermostat
New belts all 3 of them
I didn’t need all the stuff I had replaced, I only needed valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and power steering pump.
I just replaced everything rubber upper the hood and the water pump because the blazer had set up for so long. I think all the parts cost about $200 so that’s not that much for peace of mind I don’t think.
My 4'' lift kit came in Friday, so I spent the weekend putting in on at my FIL house. Waiting on new brake line for the front to have it done. I didn't like the brackets to lower the brake lines that came in the kit. Also put new calipers and brakes on it while I had it tore down.
My plan is to play this deer season with the blazer the way it sits now. I have a Dana 60 front axle and a 14bolt ff rear to put in after deer season with bigger tires. Tires in the picture are 33’s.
