I have supported 95% of the ones discussed on here....this one I will not. Another one was that POS cop that shot that guys dog when coming to file a report on burglery. Dog didn't die and the owner had to drown the dog in a 5 gallon bucket to put it out of his misery.....and the Victoria, tx cop who tazed the old man.

RJH has a valid point, especially based on the posts I've read elsewhere on TBH. Many in our camp blindly support one side instead of having an open mind about every news story.

I don't think anyone has said and certainly not meant to support "all law enforcement" with the meaning that none are ever wrong. Not a single police officer even supports other officers like that. What many people and especially officers want is to see the entire case before we build the gallows. All we need to look back to is Michael Brown, Freddie Gray and others that once the investigation is allowed to run, we often find out a different outcome than the emotional claim.

When people say "I support whoever " I don't think anyone means "even the criminals that happen to wear a badge/teach school/patrol our borders/fight our wars, etc.

Is RJH correct when he says that all law enforcement is not saints and/or that some are idiots? Sure. Find a single post where anyone has made such a claim.

I know I shouldn’t even go down this rabbit hole but even I have had it up to my ears with everything that has gone on lately. I served my country for 10 years in the Army (artillery SSgt) and spent most of my time overseas (8 years). I got out of the service and really didn’t fit in, when it came to the work force so I began testing for Fire/PD. I began my Police carrier in 2000 and have spent countless hours and numerous stitches and broken bones to be the best I personally can be.

I won’t name my department but for a few that know me, well you know where I work. I will say that for my upbringing as a young cop, I had great mentors and teachers. I was taught to be tough when needed all the while being fair and compassionate. I was not taught to police by intimidation nor fear and to treat everyone like I would want a family member treated. I was also taught the extreme importance of being able to communicate and physically fight when the time came. The use of my firearm was always taught to be a last resort and not a tool for compliance. I have spent a hell of allot more time sharping my communication skills and my ability to just shut up and listen. This has saved my arse numerous times in a confrontation with someone who had nothing to lose. I know this for a fact due to talking with the persons on the way to jail and them telling me they were out for blood or suicide by cop and they appreciated the way I handle them when they were in a crisis. I have personally been in two incidents that could have seen the use of deadly force and by the GRACE OF GOD, they didn’t come to that. Even in both of those situations, I used my ability to listen and observe as well as being able to use the tools I had been given to deescalate the situation.

I have watched all the videos you all have and there are several that just make me question! Was that officer ever trained like I was? Was that officer ever taught to communicate or take a moment to observe? Was that officer ever taught to physically fight? The reason I ask those things? Well if that officer doesn’t have any tools in his belt other than pulling his firearm, then he or she has been set up for an epic failure. You all know that pointing a firearm at some persons nowadays, just doesn’t get the response it used too. There are folks out there that just don’t care and if that is all you have as an officer, well it’s not going to go well.

Now, I’m not saying that every situation could have been resolved with words or a well-executed arm bar, I’m just asking those questions, was the officer trained well? I know the officers I have worked with for the past 17 years are highly trained and trained in the areas of communication and self-defense as well as the normal cops stuff. Believe me folks, we as LEO’S ask the same questions you do and have the same concerns at times!

We all have the benefit of being able to critique these things after the fact and they should be critiqued by not only the state/City but the public, because as officers, we do work for the public! There is such thing as a public norm and the public expects better of us as Officers! The public expects us to be able to do these almost impossible things in a split seconds and folks WE CANT BE WRONG! And I am ok with that, I signed up for it and I will continue to suit up and Police the best I can until i call it quits and retire to he fishing boat.

There are some on here that are just plain mad and rightfully so on some incidents and I hope that prosecutors will do their job and prosecute when the law has been violated by an officer. I am not going to litigate each incident for those that are just going to be angry and see officers as the enemy, sorry.

I am writing this to those that are on the bubble, not knowing what to believe or who to trust right now. Even as an officer, I too am angry for those few officers that have tainted the public trust I work so hard to uphold and cherish. I know that the fellow officers I stand side to side with will agree that the Thin Blue Line is not just a symbol to us, it’s a way of life. It is up to us to train ourselves better and to be prepared at all times to react and react PROPERLY. It is up to us to keep that faith and trust that the public gives us refreshed. It is up to us to jerk a knot hole in your partner if he or she gets to angry or loses focus!

For my LEO brothers and sisters reading this, try and remember your LAW ENFORCEMENT OATH? If you dont please take the time and google it and read it again, please! I know I am going to catch some $*%$ for this post but I am personally tired of being lumped in with all the bad choices other officers make from time to time and i know im not the only one feeling this way. I am not perfect and I have taken my lumps throughout my carrier when I fraked up! I truly still have faith in our system and the fact that hundreds of thousands of Officers suit up every day and bring pride and respect to their departments and the public they serve, I really do.

I really appreciate this post! From my personal experience about 75% of you guys think the same way! The other 25% shouldn't be in law enforcement.

I'll give you an example of an officer who pulled me over for my tires being 1" outside my fender's and breaking the law. Officer was supper nice and let me know about the law which I had no idea existed and gave me a warning. Then I called the police when someone stole my license plate off my truck in my driveway and the officer was a total pain in the butt and was rude and acted like I was wasting his time. Communication is something that seems to be a lost art these days and people in general need to get with the program. You can deescalate a situation within the first couple of sentences out your mouth whether your the officer or the person who is talking to them and it goes both ways.

Can you list a few incidents that you saw where the officers made mistakes in your mind.

One thing you have to remember is that there are some departments that place training last on the list. It may or may not be the fault of the officer that they have had inferior training. There was a sheriff's office on FB the other day that was starting a gofundme account for new vests because it wasn't in their budget and their vests were expired by a few years, IIRC. We are only as good as our training. Most of the shootings I have seen have been justified under UOF case law, that's why I'm asking which ones you've seen that have not been.

That officer in SC who shot the black guy in the back, looks absolutely justified for his indictment and prosecution. The old guy who shot the guy in the back when he thought he was tasing him, prosecution looks justified, even though he made a mistake. Which other ones did you think were bad shoots?

misinformed tattle tales seem to play a role in some of these mishaps... people think they are helping when in fact they are just escalating the situation.
