Tariffs starting day 1 - Heck yes!

Earlier today, I heard from a friend that does commercial roofing in the Austin area that suppliers, specifically roofing shingle suppliers he deals with have already started quoting prices up by 25%. In his case two of his bids that had previously been submitted and won are now up in the air as commercial contractors have halted construction due to re-quotes from suppliers.
not sure how this tariff policy will play out in the long run but I agree with Señor garguy that it is more than likely a negotiation tool.
for those wondering why Canada is in the mix, it’s due to the increasing numbers coming across the northern border illegally.
IMHO illegal immigration and illicit drug smuggling issue have been in play for decades and potentially closer to a century. Neither political party here in the US has ever really had the gumption to put an end to either one of them due to the money. If folks really believe that either issue is due to corruption in Mexican politices they better wake up and start realizing there is equal or more corruption in US politics. As an example, read the following which is part of an article which I have linked below.
“ Vignarajah, a former policy director for Michelle Obama when she was first lady, took the top job at Global Refuge in February 2019 after she lost her bid to be elected governor of Maryland. She has since become one of the most prominent advocates for migrants crossing the southern border, appearing frequently on MSNBC and other media as an immigration advocate. Her incoming salary was $244,000, but just three years later, her compensation more than doubled to $520,000.“
Federal funding has turned the business of resettling migrant children into a goldmine for a handful of NGOs—and their top executives.

Well i hope that Trumps bluff works, because tariffs are a national retail sales tax. Heck Yes!!
Plus China does not have to put up with it. They can simply charge us 10x for neodymium. Countries don't pay that tax, consumers do.
Well, as I have learned here on the GS, it works that way when dems are behind it at least.

Most long term fixes come at the cost of sacrifice in the short term. And trust me, the younger generations will make plenty of mistakes that affect the next generations negatively as well. "Woke"....need I say more?

“Sacrifice”? You mean like if they paid back their student loans like they agreed to do?
That’s not a sacrifice at all.
Everyone is to blame for the $36 trillion in debt. The crooked politicians who stole it or spent it on stupid **** and the citizens for letting them get by with it since 1835.
Everyone.

On the other hand, there is the already struggling American consumer to think about, not to mention innocent families in other countries that will starve.
This way of thinking is completely out of line for your maga cult, but I rest well in being the outsider here. We will see soon enough where everyone stands.
1. Immediately begin deporting EVERYONE with a criminal record. No matter what country they came from.
2. HAMMER any illegal alien driving on OUR highways without license or insurance or drunk. If I, as an American Citizen, do that then I am punished. Take their vehicle & throw them in jail.
3. Jails may get overcrowded? BUILD MORE!!! Quit letting illegals with ZERO regard for our safety go free.
4. Crops rotting in the field? Pay a decent wage to farm workers & quit treating them like indentured servants
5. Finally, QUIT giving away OUR TAX DOLLARS! Both domestically & internationally. The ONLY foreign government I personally would support is Israel.Last edited by Tejas Wildlife; 11-27-2024, 11:40 AM.

Why build more jails for the “ illegals”. Process them rapidly like Catch them and load them on buses or in planes , send them back to Mexico or Canada because that’s where they came through and tariff the ****e out of those countries to force them send Their problem back to where they entered those countries from !!!
we have to quit farting around , quit talking and DO!

Mexico supplies the drugs that Americans demand. Do I support tariffs, not when it is going to hurt my wallet.
