Shoot the 12 gauge opening day and for a week. Use the 20 the rest of the season.

12 gauge, the more pellets I can throw at them the better chance I have to hit one.

Same here...been through more shotguns than I care to mention and finally decided to shoot everything with 12 so I only have to buy/reload one gauge. Always have a backup this way also that shoots the same ammo. That said, I don't dove hunt near as much as I used to. When I was at it hard, I LOVED my little Beretta 20 O/U!!!

Actually, my favorite dove gun is my 16 ga Rem 1100 with mod choke. I know it was not one of the choices but thats my opinion. Shells are a bit pricie (sp?) compared to 12/20.

20 in an open field type shoot...28 or .410 over a waterhole.

I haven't shot a 12 ga at doves or ducks in years....just no need for the extra weight and boom imo ....

12 gauge here. The way I shoot, I need all the extra lead I can get so I buy the loads with 1 1/8 oz of shot and 3 1/4 drams of powder. I am afraid that with a 20 gauge I would just be adding lead to the countryside.lol

I will start with a 16 gauge O/U, then a 20 then a 28, I have a matching 12 but don't shoot it too much, need to get the 410 to round it out.

Depends on the field and if I know there are a lot of birds. Most of the time I prefer to hunt with my Remington 1100 .410, but if I know that it is going to 50+yard shots at white wings I will break out my 12 or 20. Next gun will be a 28 foresure, just waiting for Browning to build a semi-auto on a small frame like my 1100.

Just got a new, to me, remington 1100 20ga a few weeks ago that i plan on using this year. I have a 20 O/U that I've been using for years.

I have always used a 12 ga, I started with a single shot and I always got more birds and used less shells than anyone else in the group. I learned just how far my 12 ga would target and done really well.
Since I grown up and now use a 12 ga pump, I use more shells and get less birds........is there a lesson to be learned here???????????

But I have a lot of fun no matter what I shoot.
