glad all is well. I seriously doubt anyone on here would sit by and let fire ants kill a fawn. That's got to be an extremely painful and cruel way to die. Even the tried and true "nature" dudes would probably at least put it out of it's misery. I'm just glad it did not show up at my house because my wife would have it in the laundry room with a collar and a name by now.
Growing up in Arizona a farmer we knew found a Mule Deer fawn in a field he had plowed. He brought it to our house where we raised it on goats milk until the local Game Warden caught wind of it. The buck Mule Deer was about weening age when we had to turn him loose on a ranch down the road and we visited him off and on until he grew large enough to start seeking them does and leave. It was real cool to be able to get so close and pet him, they are such beautiful animals.
I just spoke to my mother in law and they fed it throughout the day, when she found it it couldn't even stand up, once she sprayed all the ants off and fed it it started walking around. The momma came back and got it a couple of hours ago , if she would have left it there it would probably have died. So we have a happy ending
i say do what your heart says and if that mean feeding the fawn than so be it. it may be illeagle to keep a non paperd deer in a pen or caged up but i dont think that it is illeagle to feed a baby deer or look after it. and if it happen to hang around your house than ooohhh well. plus if it is illeagle to feed deer than most all deer hunters are in big trouble because im pretty sure they use feeders to
who cares if its illegal or not.. she did the right thing.. i dont want to see anything suffer.. sometimes we all need a helping hand.. glad everything ended well.
conservation, management and yes helping wildlife out is the reason we have the deer herds we have now. That is why there are more deer and turkey than ever. Tell her she did a great thing and we are all glad that the mother took it back. Great ending.
Cut one out of a fence once, nice doe during season, and felt good about it.

Great to know the Momma took it back. That's useful information for many who will be faced with the similar situations. Would be interesting to know how many faws are actually lost to fire ants in Texas.
