Longest wait time for taxidermy work?

I’m at 3 years for a canvasback & knew this before dropping it off so no worries on my end. The guy responds to my every text and does fabulous work.

**So what’s the longest you have waited on an item? What was the species?

Almost 4 years for a can and a squealer. Ol boy did great work but got too many irons in the fire. I had pretty much written it off when he contacted me.

I'm still waiting on a javelina shoulder mount and bobcat rug from the early 1990s. Paid a $100 deposit, too.

I've been waiting on my lazy taxidermist to do a few animals from around 2004!

I think he's mad at me for sleeping with his wife!

bobcat - 10 years and counting, with $100 deposit..

matter of fact, i still have a picture of the cat. I shot it while dove hunting (see birdshot shells in the bed of the truck). Was dove hunting a tree line, downed a dove, and the cat ran out from the trees and grabbed a dove and tried to run back to the woods. I locked him down with some #7 shot. really wanted him mounted with a dove in his mouth.. took to Hookers Taxidermy in Gordonville. They did a fish and a deer for me and both turned out great. Dropped cat and dove off, paid deposit, never heard back. I called and stopped by several times of the years, but always an excuse.

I received 3 deer mounts back here recently after waiting a little over 3 years. This was mainly due to Covid hitting and the supply chain issues though. I had used this taxidermist for a long time and he was always upfront and honest, so I did not mind the wait. All 3 deer turned out perfect.

Just curious, why not go pick up your cat and take it elsewhere?

I think it would be helpful to name the taxidermist as well. Ahem...as to avoid.

The owner had stated several times he had been traveling north to help family with medical stuff and his times would be delayed. No problem. Well, one day I run by the shop and it's closed up looking like for good. Called several times, no answer, went by, no answer.. just kind of forgot about it over time.

To me much over a year to year and a half is just insane. I have two ducks at the taxi now that should be ready by september and a deer that I shot opening weekend of bow season that should be ready by the end of february. Both Taxidermist are very reputable and do great quality.

Unfortunately, 12-14 months seems to be the standard these days. I'm going on 14 months currently on my 2021 deer.

Shot a 7-8 lb carp that was as orange as a goldfish at Amistad bowfishing back in 2002, been waiting on the taxidermist ever since.
