One month to go before our group heads over to South Africa to hunt with Dumukwa Safaris. Been busy sighting in my new Mathews V3X. Going to add 100 gr. German Kinetics to my FMJ’s for my target plains game animals. I’m going with a group of five this time with 10 days of hunting.

None of our group are bringing guns due to the hassles. Our
PH provides all the rifles and the clients just pay for ammo.

What are the rackets and crap to watch out for ?
How is Security etc ? This is first time over and don’t want to be caught off guard. Going to have a few layovers and plane hops. DFW, Doha,J Berg, Port E. Will also be staying at the Boardwalk Hotel in Port Elizabeth the night before our return flights home. Taxi from hotel to airport safe ?
Just looking for a few pointers before diving in.

Do not flash any more than $! bills in any of the airports!

Put your bino's or any valuables in a carry on, not in checked baggage.

Not sure about taxi service at any airport, never had to use one!

Ask the outfitter they should be able to advise you. Go to your bank get a few hundred in Rand will be worth it, Chase had it to the branch in 3 days. Leave the rest for tips at the property for the staff.
Just keep your bags don’t let anyone carry or take them from you.

If you are going to tip money to the help, give it to your PH to distribute. Saves headaches and possibly lives letting the PH handle that! You can say give this much to whomever and such!

In your shoe, carry on, etc ?
Do you tip in USD, or Rand ?
Was it easy to wire money, to pay remainder of trip and extra dues ?
Do they take USD in Doha at the airport ?

I carry $$, mine in my backpack that never leaves my sight. Airports are pretty secure so won’t get robbed in there.
I tip camp staff in Rand and PH in USD, it is a good inflation hedge for them. I pay about 50% in cash and wire the balance when I get home. Paid that way all three times in agreement with the land owner. Just use a credit card in Doha, and SA airports, the airport in Doha is really nice. Add on to your ticket a lounge for $65 all the food and drink you can stand, they have showers as well, all super clean and attendants on staff 24/7. Just did that in May was 100% worth it. My room on site had a safe so lock up the cash and passport while out hunting, all the camp staff I have been around are very nice and trustworthy, helpful.

Definitely in Rand. Change the money i the exchanger. They will gladly take dollars, not sure you will be happy with the exchange rate.
Don't forget to do a malaria shot if you are going to Kruger. Another option would be to have a strong mosquito repellant and malaria medication (check canadian pharmacy website , they might have it). That was exactly what we did and everything turned out to be just fine.
