    Working Remotely

I went from working locally for a manufacturing company in the thermoplastics industry to a Machine & Systems builder in the same industry as a Sr Process Engineer.

Now working from home for a company out of Germany sizing and helping design machines and support customers on machine scale-up, process design, process optimization & troubleshooting.
Primarily support customers out of the US but some internationally.

How many other TBHers work remotely and travel as needed?

I just started working remotely 2 weeks ago. It's a weird deal for me after 30 years of law enforcement. But I'm enjoying it and it pays well.

Here. VP for staffing company. IT, Engineering, Life Sciences and Accounting and Finance. I travel 6-10 times a year. Live in San Antonio and HQ in Houston. Mostly road trips there and then to conferences and such.

I work remotely as well. I'm in sales for a German rotating equipment manufacturer.

I work remotely for 3M healthcare Research and Development and have only been to the office 5 times in the last 2 plus years. It works great as I get more work done with less stress. I save about 1.5 hour drive a day. I probably will never go back to an office full time. Maybe one or two days a week.

I have worked remotely since 2005 except for years 2013-2015 I was in the office. Only negatives are the refrigerator and pantry are just a little too easy to access.

I have been a CNC Programmer for almost 20 years. I quit a full time job in 2013 and have been contract programming all over the country since then. In 2019 I worked a contract job in Maryland for a year. Then their Massachusetts location asked me work as a contractor for about 6 months. Then they offered me a full time job, but I told them I was not interested in moving there. We agreed for me to work from home 80% of the time. However, I am now working for the place in Maryland again and the last time I had to travel was in March of 2022. I work from home and love it. I really could work anywhere as long as I have good high-speed internet.

I have worked my side gig remotely as a nurse paralegal for 4 years. I will be transitioning to mostly remote (I’ll go in 1 day per week) at my primary job doing trauma quality improvement in March.

Forgot one other negative, sometimes your family forget who your time belongs to when your working. It is pretty easy to train kids but hard to train wives. 911 being down in a major metropolis is nothing compared to a their crisis with the sink, missing keys, or trash.

I work for the state(till end of April). before the covid crap hit the fan, I was working from home 1 day a week. Now it is full time working from home. I am a programmer/analyst and it is nice to work from the house. But, I did work a couple hours last night due to production abends.

How does someone get these jobs. I traveled the country pipeline welding for years which has lots of freedom and nice views but now in the refineries with no freedom to be home for my family. I miss the freedom though.
