Yeah they likely were. My first house was built in '85 and had double-pane windows. They just didn't have things like Argon-filled and low-e back then. Double-pane doesn't mean much when they are all fogged up.

Window World came out today, quoted me 25k for 38 windows. We have some windows that are 8' tall and 6' wide, custom radius, etc.

As I know you said no vinyl, has lifetime warranty and free replacement for busted seals.

Surely I can do better, any suggestions? I'm watching the Houston Window Experts comparison videos and the Windsor windows look nice, but I was told I DO NOT WANT VINYL. Thoughts?

Why not vinyl? I’ve used vinyl on several projects for the last 25 years and have never seen issues.

On a today average, my labor cost is close to $500/window. That goes up if the windows purchased were manufactured with the fins on. Then the crew has to spend the time to cut them off.

Does not include trash haul-off, s/r, window covering removal/install, or cosmetic repairs. If the windows are cased, it will get much higher.

I've never had any problem with vinyl.

I'm about 45 days into this same process. I don't mind vinyl windows but pretty particular about the mfg and the look. lot's of them have huge frames that look like crap from the outside. From my experience (~6 estimates) most of the big name window replcement guys you find on google are offering a similar canned pitch with a similar easy to install product. I'm seeing those range from about $800-$1k per window with material and labor.

I have had more luck going to some of the big distributors: BFS, Beacon, Alside and looking at major national brands and they provide a material quote with a list of qualified installers. Price is in line or a bit higher but feels more legit to me. I'll make a decision in the next week or so and report back with end results.

Still happy with my Advanced Window Products (out of Pasadena) and would do it again if needed.

I just completed my house. I used Don Young windows. We sell them so I was able to order for cost and just pay for labor. 27 windows (most 3x6, some smaller, a couple have an arched top) and one sliding door. Anodized black aluminum frame, thermal break, low-E, Argon, and most were tempered glass. Total cost for all windows, slider, trim, sealant was about $14k.

I'd buy a Rolex on the street from a Crack head before I ever talked with windows by Anderson again.

In March I had Advanced Window Products replace 32 windows with their vinyl, argon filled, low-e windows. 17 were various sizes and 15 transom windows. Took the crew about 8 hrs to complete the install and clean up. I would use them again. Cost $18,200 which was $2700 less than Window World.

Renewal by Anderson will replace all your windows for the low cost of 6X the value of your home. They are insane.

That's who we used several years ago and still pleased with them. Gotta find ya a dealer to get em tho.
