Definition of a drop line by TPWD?

I'm trying to find rules about tagging drop lines by TPWD standards, and all I found was a "throwline", which is defined by:

"For use in fresh water only. A fishing line with five or less hooks and with one end attached to a permanent fixture, a float attached at or above the water line, and a gear tag. Components of a throwline may also include swivels, snaps, rubber and rigid support structures."

The drop lines we use do NOT have a float attached. Would they still count as a throwline by TPWD?

Second question, are gar a game fish now? I know they have limits but if they're a game fish then you aren't allowed to catch them on "throwlines"...

Yes it would count as a throwline, as it states attached to a fixture, float or anything above the waterline.

Not sure on the gar, other than you have to report any alligator gar caught.

Gar are not game fish. Didn't realize it, but yes, looks like you need a float. Don't forget gear tag (can write it on float)

It is a throwline (limbline, Dropline same thing) but you need to put a float and gear tag on it to be legal.

Since when do you have to have a float on a limb line? What would be the purpose?

If anything for a visual marker so there isn't a string with rusty hooks hanging when water drops.

I'm thinking two years ago you had to add the floats to limb lines. A few years before that had to start adding tags to limblines

Helps other people find and check your lines easier.

Yup, and takes more stuff to put them out.
I liked limb lines because I could use a bucked and carry all I needed in boat. But not with the floats now.
                        I'll just jug line now.

What momma don't know dont hurt her. I have no problem tagging my lines but I'm not putting a float for every meat head that drives by to see my lines and run them.

I got cited for no gear tags on throw lines a couple years ago and they didn't cite me for no flotation device on them.
