Entering deer in record books?

Scoring used to be about how much meat the critter was going to provide. Hence, "the big buck".
My godfather, who was a farmer and cattleman (after being forced out of the hog business in the 1970s), and born and raised on a farm in Wingate TX, told me about a buck he shot on his property once (when I was 37 yoa). He said it didn't have the biggest rack. But his body was big. And he liked a little deer meat once in a while, instead of beef and pork all the time.

As soon as I locate an official scorer I will enter “wonder bra” and “public enemy” they both were highlights of my hunting life and they both met requirements to a T. I’m proud of them and the animals themselves deserve the recognition. To survive to maturity in east Texas small properties and on public land. It’s a tip of the hat to the animal. I do t care if my names beside it or not

So in 2009 I was able to kill a LF buck that scored 201 Nontypical - he netted 198. I had him officially scored and he qualified for the all time record book.
I get that times have changed but to be truthful it was the highlight of my many years of hunting and I am proud if it.
I don't even enter the contests though have no problem with anyone entering anything as they wish.

pretty nice buck in your avatar pic btw, thanks for sharing...

I feel people talking about Eberhart not entering his bucks for the record books is less about the books and more about their dislike of him...
I personally find his demeanor outrageously condensending.
But that doesn't discredit him for his amazing success in the whitetail woods. I just choose not to listen to him talk.
