I entered a couple because I wanted to honor the animal and at the time I wanted to know the score based on the toughest criteria. Certainly, way less important to me now as far the inches but IMHO if you tell someone the "score" of the buck, you should know how to actually score it or have it done accurately. Otherwise just enjoy the pursuit and the challenge.

Most scorers I run across wouldn't mind scoring it regardless of whether you enter it or not, they score because they love to do it.

I have hunted for over 60 years - I grew up reading the old magazines and going through the Boone and Crocket book of records. Back then it was truly rare to have a buck qualify for B&C record book. The B&C club is an honorable organization IMO.

So in 2009 I was able to kill a LF buck that scored 201 Nontypical - he netted 198. I had him officially scored and he qualified for the all time record book.

I get that times have changed but to be truthful it was the highlight of my many years of hunting and I am proud if it.

Ya, I don’t know why anyone would get an animal mounted.just cut the horns and antlers off and through them in the back of the garage I think you should let the big ones walk by so someone who cares can shoot them……….

It would have to be a buck like yours for me to enter it. As far as P&Ygoes the need to raise the minimum 125 is way way to low

              I do appreciate the feedback.

I only hunt public so half of it is being paranoid of someone figuring out where I hunt. But then there is another side of me that feels like one of God’s creatures should be honored.

I figure it spent most of it’s life giving glory in one way, so in death it gives God glory all the same for creating such a magnificent animal.

Lotta good reasons for both sides and it’s given me something to think about.

When having an animal officially entered in B&C , P&Y , or SCi. It’s not so much about score or getting your name in there. You should look into the back ground of the clubs and what they have done for the conservation and the hunting world.

If I killed the world record typical I wouldn’t even enter it, don’t give a crap about it. I read where milo hansen makes about 30-40 grand a year going around showing off his deer. Lol! Huge waste of time

Might have a B&C mule deer hanging on the wall, haven’t got around to scoring it.

Doubt i would enter it anyway.

Back in the day before feed programs took over wt hunting a book buck actually meant something.

Wow what a buck! Incredible it only had 3” of deductions!

A true low fence net book deer DOES still mean something!

I did too. No protein, small ranch, had sheds from him. Way back in Early 90’s.
#2 in Tx big game “awards” that year. Fewer people probably care about entering that.

Once in a lifetime deer I shared with anyone who cared to read about him.

Totally agree. IMHO. It’s about the deer. Not about the hunter.
Interesting to know where the biggest antlers are taken. Helps biologists understand and manage them better also.
