Whenever was struggling working on something:

Good thing you don't do that for a living.... you'd be broke and hungry

He’s happier than a cowboy in a saloon.

Keep your chief in his teepee.

I heard most of these growing up. Here are a few more:

When sleeping in cramped quarters - Boy, you are like sleeping with a sack full of cow horns.

If I tell you that a chicken can dip snuff, look under his wing for the can.

On a particularly screechy singer - It sounds like he/she has their foot hung under the gate.

I wish he were still here to pass along some more. It's been twenty-three years, and I miss him every day.

“Shower down on it”. Usually applied to tightening a nut or screw.

Son, life is hard enough as it is; don't be a dumb ***.

"Sheet in one hand and want in the other and see which one fills up faster"
"Man that was slicker than greased owl sheet"

If at first you don't succeed quit. No sense making an azz out of yourself.

When he wanted me to get him something "quick like a bunny" or "fast as greased lightning"
When asked how he was doing "faluvious", which he'd then say means... If I were any better I'd be dangerous
When introducing ME to someone "this is my youngest son Brad" (Brand is my older brother)

mainly remember his slightly disappointed look and slow shake of the head while saying..."boy" but with the southern drawl on the end of it, maybe like "bow-uh."

That’ll gag a maggot on a gut wagon.
