How big would a rattlesnake have to be to be record sized?

I remember the story of the member with the 8' rattler. There was a 50k bet on if it was really that long and they turned the money down because 50k was chump change for them.....

Posted before…this one killed my dog while dove hunting. I’m 6ft and it was all I could do to hold it above my to keep the tail touching the ground.

There has never been a verified true 8 foot rattlesnake on record. There have been eye witness accounts of an 8'4" Eastern Diamondback but that was back in the day when things were just written down and publicized. That's why a live, true 8 foot rattlesnake of any kind would bring some big money.

We’ve seen/killed hundred of rattlers in Shackelford county. We even clean out a known den around our house area every couple years and send the snakes to the SW Roundup.
I’ve never seen a 5’ snake on the place. Stretched out maybe close to 5’ - but I’m pretty sure the way you are supposed to measure them is laid on the ground and not held up by the tail.

That's wicked cool! What is the width between that snakes fangs? My dad's uncle was bit by one in the dark that was 2 3/8" between the fangs. He barely survived that bite.

That is the coolest mount I’ve ever seen. Now I have to have one. Where did you have that done?

I don’t take a step in tall grass out there anymore without looking first and remembering how high this dude jumped when I came up on him.

nope! Ida shot that bad boy from that deer stand about 100 yards away and let someone else retrieve it.

The way it was mounted it's only a little over an inch wide...not sure how wide it would be during a strike. My other dog Narco got hit by one in the neck that was substantially smaller & the marks were easily 2" wide. I mangled this guy's noggin pretty good & was happy it was intact as well as it was.

This one has double fangs on one side.

BB, our own TBH Walker's daughter Denise did the mount...flesh eating beetles do the dirty work & she then wires / glues the skeleton to shape. I can't imagine the hours it took.

I caught a Prairie Rattlesnake last year that was 56 3/4". The world record is 57 1/8". Probably the biggest one I'll ever see. My buddy is getting it full body mounted. If I ever beat the record I'll get a mount done.

Another pic Walker & Denise sent me when it was completed…if you look a little back from his wrist you can see a 7.5 shot through the spine.

Another Chrisgunguy & I ran across some time back.

This one came from the north side of lake Georgetown. I only had 7 acres and killed 73 rattle snakes in the 20 years we lived there and this one was the biggest, not quite 6'.

I'm sure it was exciting if Chris was involved. He gets very excited around rattle snakes. You really need to see and especially hear the recording him and a friend made when they walked into a nest of rattlers behind my house. Can you say foul language?
