I killed 1 couple years ago on The Junco that had 17 buttons.
That was no doubt a big snake but could never be verified as a world record because it's a skin. Just taking it off the snake stretches it. Basically you can make a 6 1/2 foot snake into an 8 foot snake pretty easy by skinning it and stretching the skin on a board.

Was it ever determined if there was any value to catching and selling these suckers alive? Believe I read something if they are 6' or larger some decent money was involved and I mentioned it earlier in the thread but was curious for other experience.

      Just double checking.

      Thanks
You can make a little money selling any snake that's got any weight to it. Take them to Sweetwater and get paid by the pound.

If you beat the record there I think it's $1,000.

I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread the other day. I had nightmares about rattlesnakes every where last night.

Not world records by any stretch but cool diamond back behavior.

Not records but big no doubt. I've only seen them fighting a few times in my life. Once in the wild and I had two big ones in a bucket together one time and I kept hearing them in there. I opened the bucket and they were raised up like that doing their fightin thing.

I killed two with one swing of a stick while they were doing that a few years ago.

Very true. When we would measure them for our roundup we would have to lay them out on a table and massage them to relax them enough to stretch them so we could get an accurate measurement. Of course this is only done with live snakes. Once dead they will totally relax and gain more length. Skin them out and they really grow. That’s why all measurements are taken live.

Probably at least 9 ft for a world record.

I’ve seen hundreds of not a thousand rattlesnakes in my 58 years and don’t think I’ve ever seen an honest 6+ footer. I’ve heard lots of stories. A true 6’ western diamondback would be considered a monster trophy in my opinion.
