          It’s almost certainly a scam

They got my father in law and mother in law within a week of each other

          They scare you real fast

          Ask you for sensitive info

          Steal it and you’re screwed

So think about how you were notified

What info they asked you to confirm and what info you ended up sharing with them

You may need to close some accounts before they get drained or actually call and freeze some stuff

Not because this dark web stuff, but because you just shared info with a scammer

Scam, “found on the dark web” is a scare tactic.

One scammer referred you to another scammer, the IRS

Have you hit the links on the text or email?? If so you might have a problem.

Give me your SSN, your debit card and credit card #’s along with the 3 digit code on the back of the cards. I’ll also need your birthdate and address. I’ll check to see if it’s a scam. If you start to see a bunch of charges to Cabela’s and other outdoor merchants just ignore them that’s just me running tests.

                    Not a scam email

Some of y'all assume I can't read or something I guess. It is not just some random email I received. It is through my credit card app as well as an email from my credit card co. Once again, it is not a scam email. No one is asking me for any information. I was just wondering what's the point of even notifying me if there is nothing I can do about it. I understand being notified if someone opens or attempts to open credit in my name. Anyways, y'all take care.

I just went through the same thing. My bank and credit card both sent me alerts for my drivers license # and my SS # were both compromised on the dark web. Due to a hacking that happened with T Mobile/voice stream customers years ago. So, I put a fraud alert with Experian and they notify all the other credit bureau's. Which means now, if someone tries to do anything with your SS# or credit. You have to be contacted directly to validate. A Credit freeze is another option, but that locks out everyone...even you. Since my drivers lic has a different # now. I could care less. But my SS# is important.
I enrolled with a service for $15/mo with Discover and they will watch my stuff much closer and assist if bad things happen. Life lock is another service but they are more expensive. Discover offered the most services for the price.
My bank Chase, and Discover offer credit watch services and each month do a sweep and send you the results.
                        Good luck.

WRONG...Discover searches the dark web for YOUR info and reports back to you.

It is 100% a scam. Have you actually called your CC company like lots of ppl suggested and asked them about it? that will tell you very quickly. call the number on your card. it is the only way you will know 100% that you are actually calling your CC company and not someone posing.
