There's a PayPal thing going around as well.
Just don't reply in whatever method they used to contact you.
If you're getting up there in age you can expect more garbage.

I got a text and an email saying the same thing. Looks legitimate to me.

Cancel your subscription to the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service. The scammers will go away on their own.

Any advice on this is very much appreciated.
I don't know what that means. How was it actually worded? What did the alert tell you to do or what info did it ask you for? Was the alert in an email or text message? Did you call your credit card company?

As others have said, it's probably a scam. You haven't given us enough info to respond intelligently.

Id guess its a scam but you could call the number on the back of your CC and ask them to confirm

The dark web worries you but you give that same number to the government every time they ask for it.

Fairly certain a CC company wouldn’t be checking out the dark web.

Half the country has their social on the dark web from that Experian hack a while back.

I’d call your credit card company from their customer service # (not anything the email/text provided you) and verify if you want to double check though.
This. I have Lifelock and they told me the same thing a couple years ago. We only had one cc so we cancelled it and watched everything for a few months (wife watches it like a hawk anyway) and nothing ever came of it. Take the precautions though, that may have been what saved us.

It shows up as an alert in my app.

Don't think it's a scam. One website said to contact the IRS. I'm thinking, what the hell is the IRS going to do.....or any form of government for that matter. Just going to keep an eye on things.
